halted colonization
    #3902405 - 03/11/05 01:39 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Ok, I'm using the fanaticus method (brown rice, vermiculite in half pint jars). The temperature during the colonization stage has fluctuated about 10 degrees between 75 and 85 due to shitty heating methods (I have just recently managed to stabalize the temp. at 85) At 3 weeks after inoculation, I have some jars that are about 75% colonized, some with only small patches of mycelium around the inoculation site, and some with no activity at all. And none of them have done anything for about 4 days anyway. This batch is done for, I beleive, due to a blackening of the remaining subtrate because I couldn't birth them, but in the future - what could cause such a tradgedy? Is it the temperature as I suspect or am I missing something?

My jars are similar right now. Just let them keep goign. It will be fine in time. Some strains just grow slower.

ummmm... the best thing to do in any situation is to wait and see what happens. black is no good though.... you dont want any colors in there other than the verm/brf and whitish (not grey cobweb mold).

temperature doesnt effect much other than mycellium growth/health. a contam wouldnt be caused by this. what did you do to sterilize your jars, pc or steam in pots? and how did you sterilize your syringes, rubbing alchohol, fire, H2O2?
Is this your first grow?

TEMP. only effects it if the jar was dryed out in spots... then the jars would stop growing but you have mold so obviously that's not your problem

temperature will effect jars reguardless. if its too low the mycellium wont grow optimally. if its too high the mycellium wont grow optimally. it doesnt matter whether or not there are dry spots, which there shouldnt be to begin with unless you mixed poorly or burned your brf.

i had a mycobag for my first grow and i didn't have a thermometer and i over cooked her on top of my computer monitor at about 103-105 for the first 2 days and my bottom right corner just wouldn't colonize. for the life of the cake.i had to learn somehow i guess.

This is my first grow, I steamed them in pots, and I sterilized my syringes by burning and rubbing alcohol...it also might be worthwhile to mention that now I have them warmed by a heat blanket, but I think I fucked them up because the control on it did not have temperature, just numbers. I put it up too high, when I checked the jars they were hot to the touch. The next day the mold came in force. It seems to me there might be some kind of correlation?
