Paddos in my backyard....
    #390236 - 09/10/01 03:07 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

I had quite a number of jars go bad about a month ago. They mostly had trichoderma infestations, but some had the red contam....anyway, I go out to my back lawn today to see if any of the bad mycelium had produced some shrooms. Sure enough, I came upon one ex-cake that had 6 or 7 small mushies growing out of it! They looked pretty complete, and the bugs hadn't eaten them away too bad. I left the shrooms alone, thinking that they will sporulate and eventually strengthen the mushroom community that is trying to grow there. My questions are as follows: Are the mushrooms OK after growing out of a contaminated cake? IF so, would it be wise to at least rinse them prior to consumption to wash away any nasties? Lastly, is it better to bury the contaminated mycelium in a shallow (couple inches max) hole or just crumble it up and throw it in the yard and see what happens?
Thanks for your help

Id eat them. Pick the shrooms check em out cut a few open. I aint tellen u to eat em. Ive never seen a red contam. But ive eaten a few ones that grown with the green. Really probably depends if yer allergic to the green or the red. Most people will not have a problem with the green. Althought some maybe violently allergic. Thats what i think anways i could be wrong.

This is the only time I really feel alive.

Yes they are fine to eat. Monkey's out here started to learn about beds by making their own from contaminated casings. You should be alrigt.
