The Front Lines Are Gray...
    #3902185 - 03/11/05 01:00 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Hey yo, 's been a while since I posted anywhere on the Shroomery... but that's cuz it's been a while since I last commenced to closet farming. Quick question: the latest batch of jars (yeah, still doing jars, my last casing was a disaster) shows the mycelial network spreading nicely, however, at the edges of the white stuff, there are thin areas of dark grey, almost like a darker border or outline of the mycelial growth. It doesn't look like contamination (that unhealthy, virulent look) but then again I've never seen it before. I've used higher quality BRF and very fine grained verm this go round... could that have anything to do with it? Sorry no pics but suggestions/speculation would be appreciated...

"Six words: drop out, turn on, then come back and tune it in -and then drop out again, and turn on, and tune it back in-it's a rhythm- most of us think God made this universe in nature-subject object-predicate sentences-turn on, tune in, drop out- period, end of paragraph. Turn the page- it's all a rhythm- it's all a beat. You turn on, you find it inside, and then you have to come back (since you can't stay high all the time) and you have to build a better model. But don't get caught - don't get hooked - don't get attracted by the thing you're building, cause... you gotta drop out again. It's a cycle. Turn on, tune in, drop out. Keep it going, keep it going- the nervous system works that way. gotta keep it flowing- keep it flowing.

Any chance of a pic? It's likely OK, and over the next few days the answer should be obvious. Mold almost always will 'out-race' mycelium. If this grey zone stays only at the very edges of mycelium growth, it's likely just mycelium. Give it some time and report back [with a pic, if possible].

Hoo-kay... seems the contamination threat has passed. Whatever that shadowy grey material was it's either converted to white or been consumed by the growing mycelium. All's snowy on the western front.

Thanks again for your advice guys.
