Wet Jars
    #3901639 - 03/11/05 10:58 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

My jars are 1/4 pint widemouth canning jars. They are on their 22 day and a few are fully colonized, 3 are left showing outer substrate still ( a small amount.) They really slowed down a lot and i was wondering if it could be due to the condensation building up in the jars. It looks like small water beads on the inside of the glass. I opened one fully colonized jar and it smelt realy good, but their was mycelium hairs poking through all over, some of them had little tiny water beads on them. What can i do to help these things dry up a little. I dont want to birth them until i know they are safe from contams.

I think he meant 86 (F). In response to the original question - there's always moisture buildup on the jars. In the original PF tek, P.F. even mentions it, saying something like "daub any moisture droplets off carefully with a tissue" (when you birth). I'm not sure THAT is still a recommended procedure these days, but moisture droplets on the jare are definitely normal.

Alright thanks a lot. I guess i just wont worry about it then. Incubation temperature isn't optimum at about 78 degrees, however fruiting temps will be in the upper 60s.

Though itll work, that will be a little low for fruiting, try to get it to 75-77 degrees to speed things up, or expect things to be a little slow. The good thing I've found about slow growth (either in the cold or dark) is they grow thicker and bigger in the end..
