I pretty sure im going to do some jars w/ WBS. Really the only WBS i have access to is from wal mart. Its called wild bird feed and theres 2 bags. A 4 pound (not sure on the brand) and a 10 pound by pennington. Im assuming both of these will work, but if anyone knows for sure let me know. thanks

Cockatiel food at wal-mart is nice. At least if you want wbs with no additives.

good kids, reall goood! buy all your plastic wrapped shit from the united states of Walmerica, then attempt to free your mind with fungus.... DONT BUY FROM WALMART, unless you absolutely have to, then in that case, try to steal it. cough up the few extra bucks and get it from a local store if you can. sam walton still owes me like $15, what a dick.

Yup, serious culture fuck coming from that giant. But... They're my only local store of any size... sigh... After looking at every place I could easily get to found they not only had the cheapest p.c., but also the best for my uses. When it gets too expensive to ship everything from China they'll collapse.
Wild bird seed bought there is cheap shit with almost no sunflower seeds, similar product bought at a Lowe's in a neighboring state was full of sunflower seeds; I spent more time throwing out floaters. It seems to me with WBS cheap is good... (I've noticed sunflower seeds fairly often mold even after pc.)

The Pennington's brand WBS has plenty of sunflower seeds. Their finch seed is the one with virtually no sunflower seeds, but the bag is usually much smaller.

If you folks really want to avoid Walmart for things like WBS or rye, open your local yellowpages and look for feed stores. They are pretty ubiquitous throughtout the US, and their prices are usually very good. They are also typically small, mom-and-pop operations. Walmart is certainly an easy choice, but there are usually others if you want to find them.

Some of us are forced into Walmart submission I either can drive 15 miles from my house to WalMart, 35 to Target or KMart, and 50 to Denver and shop at all family owned drugs/hardwares.
I'd rather give Sam Walton my money than Osama Bin Laden more gas money:)
I do own a bond that holds lots of WalMart stock too, it has done well for the past 3 years.
The WalMart here opened 5 years ago and has run a few local stores out of business... We do have a good local $1 store still though!!!
Home Depot shut down two local hardwares. The local lumberyard is only being kept alive by builders that boycott Home Depot. Plus Home Depot wood sucks, I had to dig through like 50 - 4x4's to find one that was not warped and looked decent.

Heck yea! My local feed store has vet supplies too. That means when I go to make a spore syringe, I can buy 30cc to 60cc syringes with luer lock tips used for injecting horses and cows instead of a bunch of little 10cc ones. I prefer to just have the one big one. They come sterile and they can be PC'ed numerous times before the rubber on the plunger starts degrading. They have huge bags of WBS, dog food, and straw. They can get you however much horse crap you want, already bagged up. Plus, they have the puppy vaccination shots in preloaded syringes, which saved me money since we just got a little basset hound puppy.
I love the feed store. Support yours! They surely aren't in the business to get rich...

I pour my WBS into a pot of boiling water, turn off the stove and let it sit for an hour, covered. Then dump the seed into a strainer and rinse off the "Bird Kote" or whatever else is on the seeds. Works fine and I've never had a problem with that stuff.

Penningtons Brand Wild Bird Seed has "Bird-Kote" in it and I have used it for years with no side effects at all.
You want WBS that has alot of Millet, Milo, and Wheat/Rye as stated in my tek(link in sig).
Bird Rations works very well-$0.99 cents for 4 pounds at Wal-Mart. It has very few Black Sunflowers. As long as the WBS doesn't have any of those "colored pellets" in it, you will be just fine. Those colored pellets make a goey mess that is really colorfull, but, it isn't any good at all, IMO.

Yes, I have fallen for it also-it just seems "cleaner" to me and it has less of the unwanted grains(sunflower). And it is by far the cheapest that I have found. Although Penningtons is #1 on my list Bird Rations is a very close #2!
