I tried my first casing using one 1/2 pint colonized jar.
I took a 10" square aluminum foil baking pan. About 2 1/2" deep.
I put a layer of moist sterile vermiculite in the bottom, then put the broken up cake over tha layer. It was chunky, so it wasn't a smooth layer. I then covered that layer with dry, steralized, Jiffy Mix. Just a little bit.
I then misted it all pretty well with h2O2.
Then covered with plastic wrap.
Does this all sound alright, something still seems wrong to me...

You need to sterilize the casing layer wet.

Ill give your caseing a 60-70% chance of making it.
Even if you didnt use str8 peroxide you still needed sterilize the verm wet. In what way did you sterilize the verm? It really needs to be wet to get hot enough to kill the nastys.

microwaved for 5 minutes. How many inches should I put on top of the mycelium? I used Jiffy mix, its really fluffy and theres not that much on there.

o, I'd just use verm. for a casing layer... simpler, easyer, less headachs.

Half inch to an inch depending on how deep your substrate is. The point of a casing layer is to provide moisture, and to protect the easily contamable substrate from the open air. You need to make sure it is flat and even and plenty moist but not flooded.

Also, I have another fully colonized jar, can I get someone to help me make sure I do this one right? Or just I just dunk and roll it then stick it into the pmp? It's just kind of full right now with 4 cakes in re-flush.

Alright, the plastic wrap over the casing is covered in condensation, and mycellium in poking through the top. Should I patch?

I realized that the initial casing layer was ont even enough to cover all the layered mycelium.
Then I realized I didn't break up the mycelium enough to even make a flat layer.
I re-cased it all using correct sterile procedures, and everything is nice and moist. I'll give it some time and see if it comes out right.
In the mean time, I crushed up another pf cake in a little baggie and put it back into the incubator, ot let it recoup for a day.
