An MAOI is a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor..it does just what it says..suppresses MAO that is formed in the liver, which is an essential enzyme that breaks down specific complex substances. Yes, it can and will intensify a trip(Syrian Rue is a common MAOI), BUT, the loooong list of drug interactions with MAOI make it risky...you need to do a search on foods and drugs that are dangerous to take or eat before you even think about doing this(i.e. eating fish and taking an MAOI can be harmful)..You can risk liver or kidney damage or maybe even death. Almost every other over the counter medication these days warn about mixing with an MAOI, so be careful!

That's not true....the problem with maoi's is an hypertensive crisis, you blood pressure can raise to very dangerous levels....you can have the worst headache of your life, going into coma or even die....this if you combine a maoi with some drugs (mdma, anphetamine, high tyramine food and some prescription drugs..)
if you want to try start reading the maoi section at www.erowid.org, fast the day you'll use the substance and the following day eat only safe foods...

as to fx....ive used syrian rue as a maoi and b.caapri(once)
3g rue with a regular dose of shrooms will enhance the trip but change it into a completely different experience. at first researchers labelled the harmaline in rue `telepathine`.
it seems harmaline is contained in our pineal glands, believed by some to be the `seat of the soul`.
pineal glands have a grainy, sandy consistency, i believe they act as some kind of mental satellite dish.
all theory, of course, but the direction is interesting.
expect a very spiritual trip, be careful of set and setting, it will not be toyland.
when i take shrooms and rue, i get no open-eye visuals, no hallucinations. i do become quiet and still and experience visions and revelations.
