3 to 8 lb grain containers colonized....

AFOAF did bulk substrates, but only straight grain. He wanted to see if it could finish colonizing before contams set in.
All containers were PP and glass, but they did remarkably well considering the amount of grain per container... All in all, about 60 pounds spread out over 9 containers.
Question is, what should he do for the best results? case and birth pf style? Any ideas would be appriciated. There isnt any need to break them up, they would be considered bulk substrate.

Case and birth PF style? That's a cake reference, I thought you were asking about trays of rye? If I follow this correctly, I'd say to case those. You aren't going to have much luck fruiting rye without any sort of casing. 1/4" casing layer.

Some are huge trays, others are in salad bowls like this
Others are in PP containers real deep and square, and two are about 4" thick about 13inL x 8inW
Just case and birtht the salad bowls, case the trays and fruit like normal bulk sub?
Sorry, he didnt expect all these to finish and wants to try something besides cake birthing.

The salad bowl may not look it, but 5 lbs of rice. You can fit quart jars inside the bowl.
Edit maybe 6lbs, need to check with him.
But anything fun or different he should try with these?
Edit #2 - All sub is brown rice and dehulled barley, and rye flakes.

Well you mentioned cake birthing but since you're dealing with bulk i'd assume you meant case?
If not, there's your answer :P

Well should he since it is networked mycelia? Usually cases only have 1 layer to pin on, but this could be double ended, and pure whole grain, would it do better than just casing on top?

You can break the grain up and make multiple casings.

You do not want it fruiting from all sides, only one. Better yeild that way and thats one reason we do casings over cakes, concentrate the energy to one side. Case them all, screw the cakes.

This post is just really funny given the opening, "AFOAF...." That's a buttload of grain!! Whoa! Go pick up about 600 lbs. of manure and spawn to uber bulk!
