Are these pins?
    #3894855 - 03/09/05 08:17 PM (18 years, 10 months ago)

Hey,
Still yet to have a successful grow, I attempted casings. The mycelium started to poke through about 4 days ago.

My question is if these are pins or startings of pins. They are completely white and have no head on them. They aren't really getting much bigger as the days go on and I just want to make sure I am on the right track

Also, I tried cakes and the pins looked exactly the same way but I got green mold and had to toss the cakes. Is something wrong with my prodecure.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
-Melissa

It might be primordia but can't tell. The pic of the red box is too far away, and the closeup is too blurry. See if you can get a clearer image. If it is hyphal knots or primordia, they'll sit for a couple of days, then begin developing into pins.

just for clarification, both hyphal knots AND primordia develop into pins? i was under the impression that only hyphal knots developed into pins...

those are 100 percent pins. the redish button on top of the white is the cap on top of the stem...you'll see as they grow a little bigger.

primordia are the little white bumps that turn into pins. i don't know why hyphal knots are. maybe its the same thing?

He said they are completely white with no head.

But I thought the pic looked like pins too.
