Legal Highs

I realize a large portion of the money coming into the Shroomery comes from the vendor ads. But advertising 'legal highs' doesn't seem like a good idea to me?

Have the admins discussed this?

I felt the ad was in bad taste, as well.

It perpetuates the over-marketing of sacred substances and puts them down as just another fix...

Now, I realize that those of us that are all about the entheogen of the substances we use are but a portion of the shroomery membership and that there are probably a good number of members who only look at such things as a "high"... but blatantly advertising "legal high" is, well, just bad taste, to me. I'll even bring in the "scare" tactic that such advertising is going to lead to it no longer being legal.

My however much it is worth to you.

Thank you for ellaborating. And it did come across the same way to me as well. It quite reminds me of the time I quit reading High Times for running Legal Budz ads.

*nod*

For clarity, here is the ad in question (I do believe):

Compare with iamshaman ad:

You don't see the spore vendors saying anything about any possible effects if you misuse their research spores

I haven't noticed this banner you speak of yet, but I already do not like it. I wouldn't mind if on the sponsors site they say that, so an easy solution would always be to change the banner. Maybe if a few of us PM that vendor they will change their banner. Good idea?

I think PMing or better yet emailing the vendor about your concerns is an excellent idea.
Afterall, you are part of the market that they are catering to and your voice should be heard!

I did advise them to create an account, and they did just last week.
My apologies for not having added it to the sponsors.php list yet, it is there now.
However, I still think emailing would be the quickest and most effective way to contact any sponsor.

You shouldn't have to add that by hand...  It should be dynamic

Seriously, it's not THAT hard to code.  Put some fire under Anno's ass. ( or hire me :smirk: )

If you tell me a way to let the system automatically know which vendor has which shroomery nickname, I will do it.

I may be a magician but I can't see your database structure.

I assume you have a table for vendors (if you don't *fwap* you should), it should have a field for shroomery userid (and thus nick, as well as other information like last login time and posts [might be nice to know how active some vendors are]).

I assume that you give the Vendor medallion to vendor's nicks. If you don't have a field to correlate from the vendor medallion to the vendor table, now is the time to ALTER TABLE; this is what relational databases are all about.

Yes.

> it should have a field for shroomery userid
It does.

The sponsors.php is created with this table.

Also... what exactly is wrong with it anyway, and am i actually able to change it?
Thanks,

You should offer some incentive for someone to make a better banner for you.

The banner kind of makes you guys seem high schoolish, and just not a very respectable site. There is just something about it I do not like (especially that "legal highs" remark - I expect to see that at the local head shop, not from a Shroomery sponsor). Offer some free Salvia, I'm sure someone will be happy to design something for you (there a few people on this site that do that sort of thing). No disrespect to you or your business, I just personally don't like the banner.

Honestly, you could get away with doing a better job in MS-Paint. At least using Paint it doesnt seem like your trying hard.

Advertising can be tricky. Its a cliche, but less can be more. Get a color scheme, consistant, or at least co-ordinating text, and chill out on the  "Legal High" bit. Give shroomerites the benefit of the doubt, and assume they know what Salvia is, and the laws involving it.

And thumbs up for starting a company at 18. I hope business is good.
