Setup Suggestions? PLEASE give input!

What do you think of this setup? It's just a big rubbermaid with clear sides (hence the black bag wrapped aroundit) and I have soaked perlite in the bottom with 2 50/50 casings at 71 degrees and 98% hum. Then I ghetto cut a window and sealed in a peice of plexiglass.



Why does condensation collect on the sides and not the top? This is good tho right, so that nothing drips on the casing? It just makes me think it's not humid enough.


I'm confused because the sides are wet from condensation and the hum. meter says 98% but it almost seems dry and my casings aren't staying moist? Is this a bad meter or is that what 98% really looks like?

I'd guess b/c of the heat from the light, is why you have no codensation on the glass.

Also casings like a little lower humidity than cakes somwhere in the 85-95% range, so you actually may be running a little high but it should work fine.

Humidity doesn't keep the casing layer wet, you have to keep an eye on it and water it when it looks dry.

ok thanks, I'll be sure to water the top layer more often... when the mycelium pops through tho, I shouldn't keep spraying right?

My terarrium has always dropplets on the sides, seldom at the top/lid. Still there grow nice mushies inside.

RH meters often suck, good ones cost a lot.

Even in 98% RH, cakes and casings can dry out somewhat. You can always mist it. Stop when pins form.

The condensation is formed when inside is warmer then outside the growbox. It doesnt tell you if your RH is good or not.
