Seriously.....
Every time I call technical support I get an automated message service that gives me choices that have nothing to do with my problem. If I somehow manage to get a real person, they are ALWAYS foreigners who don't understand what I am saying and I can't understand what they are saying. I end up swearing and hanging up. Why do companies do this shit? Why do they not care about the satisfaction of their customers anymore?

beaten by pstupid.
however, to be fair trendal is in Canada. that's not to say U.S. companies don't seek jobs there and pay Indians and other minorities who are more technically (but less English) proficient in general than Westerners to answer phones. I would think they'd just outsource directly to India and elsewhere so they could pay much lower wages than Canadian/U.S. call centers.
it's all about the $ and if they can make more by inconveniencing the majority of their American clients then oh well.

It's called Outsourcing, and it is indeed Evil.
Those people aren't technicaly foreigners - YOU are, because they are in a call center in THEIR country working for fractions of what Americans would.

Why do they not care about the satisfaction of their customers anymore?
What do you mean "anymore"? Were you actually under the illusion that a major coroporation would care about the people who give it money?
They don't. They just care about $$$.
They can outsource their tech-support to India and only pay their agents a fraction of what they would have to pay people of the same OR LESS skill there in the US. In the end that simply means more $$$ for the company, and that is the bottom line. Your satisfaction/disatisfaction doesn't mean a thing to them.

I think it's fair to say that there has never been a time when tech support gave a shit about you.
Keep in mind that most people working tech support start out with little or no experience in what they're doing. They complete the one month training course, and then they're on the phones.
Of course, that's how it goes in an unregulated free market. :P

There are a few good companies that care about their tech support, but the majority feel that once they got your $$ they already got what they wanted. They see tech support as something that subtracts from their bottom line. So they pay the skinny Indian guy peanuts to feed his familiy of eleven. And if they can get you off the phone quickly and multiply that times millions they can save money to buy another vacation home or yacht.
