DO you need calcium carbonate to control Ph in coco/verm casing? I have a background in saltwater aquaria and have ideas about controlling ph, but if I aint got to I don't want to.

You dont need too.

PS: I prefere straight coir for casing. Try it.

It certainly helps, but it's not an absolute necessity. I would definitely suggest it, though...the stuff's pretty cheap.

You don't HAVE to use a ph adjuster with coco coir/verm. BUT it DOES help with the FUTURE flushes of the casing. Shit just crush up a few eggshells and make sure they are nice and powdered and dry and mix in a tbsp per quart of casing materil, it should help future flushes. But no, ph buffers aren't needed in coco coir/verm casing.

Yeah, it's always been kind of funny to me that there's a drug that's more addictive to grow than to use.

You dont have to but its not like measuring and adding in small amounts of crap and stuff. You just mix in a bunch of powder oyster shells, about 2-5%. Little to much wont matter and it definatly increases yeild and flushes and decreases contam risk.

Coir starts off at a neautral pH but doesnt remain neutral for long. Try that thing on a casing thats had a few flushes and see what the pH is. I should get one them meters. harborfreight.com or something like that had one cheap..probably still do..

You can get it at any garden supply center. If they don't carry it, I'm sure they will gladly order it for ya. 1 brick makes around 2-2 1/2 gallons of coir that's just past field capacity for moisture.

Hydroponics stores are best, you ca get the 70-80 liter bricks there, along with the 7-9 liter bricks like you can get at the pet stores. Along with Bed A Beast, we have Eco Earth, but its more expensive at pet stores. You can order it online from hydro shops too, if you need enough of it.
