Killed senselessly in the line of duty
    #3890868 - 03/09/05 01:14 AM (19 years, 1 month ago)

Four RCMP officers were recently killed in Canada. This is very unusual (hasn't been this much loss of life since the 1800s during the Metis rebellion). In the US maybe this is more common, but in Canada it isn't, and I was pretty sad about it.

They were killed by a MJ grower who ambushed them as they were securing his grow op. One of the police officers was only 25 years old and had just graduated from the RCMP academy.

I think a parallel can be drawn to what happened during prohibition and illegal alcohol sales. Nowadays very few people produce their own alcohol, but as soon as it was illegal the demand soared.

Organized criminals took advantage of this and made many illegal distilleries/breweries.

I think these distilleries are the equivalent of a grow op and I think if the government just controlled MJ, as they do with booze, these four police officers would be alive today.

To die for such a stupid thing as a couple hundred MJ plants is just idiotic and sad.

Old news, and the guy was a known psychopath.

Source
Quote:

The occupant was certainly known to people in Rochfort Bridge.

''He's dangerous,'' said one woman, who didn't want to give her name. ''You don't want to go on his land. He'll shoot you.''

''He does what he wants, when he wants, and doesn't care about anybody else,'' said another. ''I was told to stay away from him.''

It's senseless laws and police stupidity. The guy probably shot them before he even knew they were police officers and killed himself after he realized what had happened.

Hey thanx for the link. To be honest the news really turns me off, and I think there is a lot of shit you have to sort through in any story to get the truth. I just happened to see the funeral at the 6pm news and was pretty shocked by the story.

Will definately check the shroomery news center regularly now.

Those RCMP officers didn't die over a grow op. They died because that dude was unstable. They didn't go in there looking for a grow either....they went in there looking for a truck that had to be repossesed and stumbled on the grow.

This entire situation had very little to do with marijuana so much as it was about a poor man with some serious problems.

It's not that old considering tomorrow is a national day of mourning for them.

It's pretty fucked up.

No, the police didn't come there specifically to bust him for MJ dealing. An yes, the gunman was screwed up. But the reason he fired on them is, most likely, he was pissed at them for being on his property and finding the plants.

Some people also say he maybe didn't know they were police. Pretty hard not to recognize them, what with the uniforms and police cars.

Bottom line is it is a grow op issue because lets be realistic here, he woudn't have killed four police officers for reposessing a truck.

Why not? The man is unstable! People in the town said: ''He's dangerous,'' said one woman, who didn't want to give her name. ''You don't want to go on his land. He'll shoot you.''

For BEING ON HIS LAND.

The man was crazy. He's been charged in the past with sexual assault of a 13 year old, has a history of violence and aggression, and had a stockpile of illegal weapons.

Even if he did shoot them because they were coming for his marijuana, that doesn't justify anything. The cops were doing what they were hired to do, it's the law that is unjust, not the officers.

Comments like "the only good cop is a dead cop" are just childish. That kind of attitude isn't going to help change the marijuana laws. When you've got someone who has been an officer for just a few months, and another person who has very young children senselessly murdered by a lunatic, there isn't exactly an upside.

phluck - I basically agree with all you've said.

delta9 - If you're saying that he would have killed anyone, even without the grow op, just for being on his land, then I disagree.

It's pretty hard to say who he would have killed and why. Some people will fire at others just for trespassing, even if they've got nothing illegal going on. Some people will murder others over pocket change.
