Hello all, im interested in growing some shrooms in my house but the only place that is 70 or 80 degrees in the furnace room. but ofcourse there is no light in there. I know that shrooms arent plants but they need some light to get stimulated. so can i just put a normal 40 or 60 watt house bulb in the room? and could i just put it in the chamber?

try and get a light that has some blue to it. The cheapest way to go is a shoplight, or one from a pet store and get a very low wattage plant light for veg. growth. If you can read a book then thats all your little ones will need. Remember very little. Good luck!

Mushrooms are phototropic. This means that they do not need light to creat energy but rather use it for a sense of direction. For a moment lets pretend we are shrooms growing in the wild fields of X province/state. We start as some mycellium and soon begin to wonder when we will fruit into the oh-so-good magical mushrooms. Then, BOOM, some light hits us. We have reached the surface and it is time to fruit. What I am trying t osay is that jars should be kept in darkness while they are colonizing although light will not hurt them and then after 100% colonization should be exposed to light for several minutes a day to start the fruiting cycle.

You just need some small blue lamps, even blue LEDs will work. I had 12 blue LEDs in the top of my terrarium and that worked just fine. Just make shure they have a wide spread angle.
