Dry rye-how dry is too dry?
    #3889177 - 03/08/05 09:06 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

When I took my rye filled jars out of the PC, the rye looked pretty dried up. I soaked for 24 hours and simmered for 45 minutes before PCing. Is this dryness typical? I want to be sure there's enough water to last the entire grow cycle.

do you have a picture of this dryness you speak of?
That might make it a lil easier for you to get a good accurate answer.

My digital is broken, can't snap a shot. I'm hoping that the rye kernels still have the moisture on the inside, I guess 11/2 hours of pressure cooking just makes them look a little dry on the outside. I simmered for 45 minutes so there was enough moisture in the rye before I put them in the cooker. Can the pressure cooking dry them out?

depends how you pressure cook. Are you venting the pressure cooker before placing the weight on? IME this is essential.

I'm sorry but I don't really understand what you mean. I'm using a Mirro 20.8 L cooker, the type you can buy at a department store. It doesn't have a stop cock, it has an adjustable knob on the cover. Adjusting the knob allows you to adjust the psi rating.

If you soaked and simmered...and they look dry on the outside...they are perfect.
