inculating quarts

ofoaf is using tyvek to cover his wide mouth quarts. he thinks that if his kitchen is clean and sterile that after pressure cooking he can just lift up the tyvek lids and squirt some spores in. then label and put into an incubator. what's your opinion?

He should inoculate through the tyvek and put some tape on there.

Two words you conjoined inoculate, and incubate. incubate means you keep something at a warm temperature, inoculate means you put spores or living micro organisms on or in something (i think)

Inject through the tyvek in the hole you put in the lid and cover with bandaid/tape leaving the other hole you put in the lid open.

But you said specifially to introduce a desease...it does not have to be a desease at all.

I must have the cleanest house i the world (sic.) I'm not overly concerned about contams and havn't had many problems. most of my contams came form not pc'ing long enough. as long as you wash your hands are carefull where you breath you should be able to take the tyvek off. but its so simple to puncture with the needle that you might as well do that. I don't believe in tyvek. Metal lid with a finishing nail hammered thru it for air and inoculation works for me. I line all the jars up in a row, cut a sheet of tinfoil or wax paper and lay it loosly on top of all the jars. let them incubate. i've only ever had a couple of jars have problems fully colonizing. with these tip em upside down and wait.
