The mushroom is a proud member of the Fungus Kingdom, which is actually more closely related to animals than to plants according to the most recent genetic evidence. Another interesting piece of evidence is that fungus cell walls are composed of chitin, the same material that makes up crab and lobster exoskeletons, instead of the cellulose that you find in plants.

Also, I was wondering if a fishstick is actually a fish, a stick, or some kind of synthetic chemical? It has properties of all three.

Anyone? We've now figured out what a "mushroom" is, now let's solve some real mysteries!

It's actually fish fingers breaded and deep friend. Yeah, chickens have fingers, too, you know.

Very good and accurate info slackerKM.
They are technically more closely related to animals than plants genetically and in principal. Plants are special because they live on inorganic substances (in essence converting light and minerals into life) while fungus and animals eat organic substances.

There are sponges and corals that are animals and grow on the ground.

How about this.. if a Sea Cucumber was provoked by a Kiwi Bird, who would be the Victor of the following confrontation.
http://www.alaska.net/~scubaguy/images/seacucumber.jpg Sea cucumbers can expel most of their internal organs to confuse predators - they later regrow the organs. And contain toxins.
http://www.thetailormadetourco.co.nz/images/gallery/large/w15.jpg The kiwi Bird has a beak. Random fact - It is the national Bird of NZ, where it is also the only native home of the kiwis.
What strange animals live about...yhea...I'm done..
I want 1 of each...any one trading a kiwi bird...anyone..

There was an even cooler bird in New Zealand that went extinct about 800 years ago. Yes its even cooler than the Great Auk. It was called the Moa.
Quote:
The biggest moa was the Giant Moa. It was taller than three metres and weighed about 250 kilograms. The giant moa was one of the biggest birds ever known in the world. As big as Big Bird from Sesame Street.
Since it had no natural land predators when polynesians settled NZ (the only thing that could kill them was a giant eagle, also extinct now) they kicked it's ass into oblivion. I bet it was good eating.

Nice argument, adjust. IMO corals are the missing link between plants and animals. They do grow on inorganic substances and have cells similar to animals, along with the genetics, but whats odd is they require light to live, they are photosynthetic.
and to the member who created this thread... wow.

FIVE KINGDOMS [Re: SirRobin]

procaryota (prokaryotes - no cell nucleus) - "kingdom monera" ---> bacteria, archaebacters, & their allies...
& the eucaryota (eukryotes: cell nucleus): kingdom protista - single celled organisma & colony organisms: paramecia, amoebae, euglena, volvox, etc. kingdom plantae - generally contain chloroplasts - capable of photosynthesis - algae, ferns, liverworts, ummmm vegetables, y'know -plants... kingdom fungi - molds, smuts, mushrooms... kingdom animalia - protostomes & deuterostomes - rotifers, sponges, hydras, gastropods, crustaceans, & vertebrates (& some others too...)
five kingdoms... googlsearch: five kingdoms, lynn margulis, endosymbiont theory, gaia hypothesis... five kingdoms of living things
(virus are sorta loose gene cluster, not exactly "living organisms" by the definition, heh...)
side note-the total biomass of the superkingdom prokaryota (kindom monera) is greater than the other 4 kingdoms combined!!!!!!!!!

I wish someone could get that National Geographic article of mine up. It talks directly to this subject.
