Building a phone system
    #3887306 - 03/08/05 02:56 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Has anyone tried using asterisk@home?

http://asteriskathome.sourceforge.net/
http://techdatapros.com/asterisk/

Some people didn't notice how this became a fully working system. Take note that I used a Digium modem card purchased for $6.95. This allowed me to plug in my existing analog phone line. If you called my phone number, you were greeted by the auto attendant. Dialing extension 200 rings the X-Lite SoftPhone on my laptop. The soft phone could easily have been replaced by a SIP phone or an analog phone with a SIP ATA Adapter.

The list of features is incredible.

I want to try it, it will be interesting when people start getting root by calling your phone.

I administer several Asterisk boxes at work. As I understand this is just Asterisk with AMP GUI installed with some other minor changes, we have several clients using Asterisk+AMP and they love it. Also we mostly use purely VoiP setups with IAX termination so you dont even need regular lines at all, although it is still a good idea to buy at least one analog card for timing issues.

Yeah, you get asterisk@home if you don't currently run linux and have no idea how to run it or are too lazy to do so... Otherwise, you get asterisk and whatever other tools to go along with it.

I was looking at setting it up at a friends house just to play around with it. In that setup it would simply connect to their single analog line.

What types of hardware and lines are required for an office allowing multiple incoming connections through dialing a single line?

Oh and for delta9 I think I might try setting this up on a MEPIS station .

With one analog line you are not going to be able to do more than one simultaneous call, but for that setup all you would need is a generic Digium FXO - they are available for around $30. We mostly do pure VoiP termination so that we do not have to deal with the phone company, with an IAX termination service we pay $5 per simultaneous call per month. IE: You want 5 simultaneous calls, that would be $25 a month plus whatever charges you incur.
