How important is light during fruting?
    #3886606 - 03/08/05 11:41 AM (13 years, 1 month ago)

Right now im fruiting my first cake in the PMP. Now ive noticed mycelial growth on the cake since ive placed it in there. But I am not sure of how much light it needs, if much at all. I open the chamber up usually once or twice a day because I love looking at it and checking the environment. My question, is that enough light or do I need to get some sort of lamp. Also does indirect sunlight have enough blue light in it to please the mushies. Thanks for any help in advance.

Some ppl say that is enough light, all you need is a lil light but i think that if you have a light straight above it for like 8 hours a day they will grow straight up instead of all funky since theyw ill grow toward the light. Although i may be wrong. But yes it really only needs very little light.

Indirect sunlight is fine. These fungi evolved on a world with sunlight, and they respond well to it.

I was under the impression that only a few seconds of light a day is necessary to induce fruiting. Why is more light necessary?

High light intensity while its on will give you better pinsets. Once the pinset is established, you only need a few hours every day or two to make them grow up. For high intensity, all is required is a flouro or any light bulb..flouros are best because they dont generate much heat but lots of light.

You can get by with less...but if you want pins to form like this on your casing, you need lots of light.
