What do you guys think are the best gangster/mob movies?
The Godfather, Goodfellas and Lock stock and two smoking barrels are definatley on the top of my list. Can't forget Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown either.

Romeo Must Die is a good gangster flick. Asian gangsters versus the black gangsters, with lots of martial arts.

can't really go wrong with the classic gangster films. not as bloody or violent as the current ones but in general have more character development, better plot and storytelling, and were genuinely original and mostly timeless in their subject matter.
some essential examples:
Little Caesar (1930) - basically the original gangster movie. based on Al Capone's life. fairly dated but classic in every sense of the word.
Public Enemy (1931) - great stuff, launched James Cagney's career.
Scarface (1932) - while De Palma's remake with Pacino is an entertaining movie, Howard Hawks' original is superior in almost every way.
Angels with Dirty Faces (1938) - Cagney. enough said. (also has Humphrey Bogart in an early role)
lots more from that era, but these have stood the test of time and still hold their classicness.
just an analogy, why listen to a Grateful Dead cover band when you can listen to and get more from the original thing? (assuming you're into GD {not my thing}, but the analogy fits regardless)
not really knocking the newer Hollywood gangster films but just think it was done better before and hasn't been/can't really be topped just updated to fit the times more or less.
