I love Baltimore 1977 but I couldn't stop with just one song. If I put it on, I listen to the whole concert. I was at that show and it is one of the tapes (CDs) that sounds exactly like I remember it sounding. I had a great time that night. I like Pink Floyd very much but comparing the two isn't really possible, in my opinion.

-------------------- Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

What songs do you consider depressing? I guess I think at it the same way learyfan does.

Grateful Dead any day of the week. Pink Floyd have certain songs that are fantastic, however I have not heard a GD song that I have not liked....and im not just sayin' that. It is IMPOSSIBLE to be in a bad mood when listening to GD... IMPOSSIBLE

i always feel this really peaceful, enlightening ambiance to most of the floyd's music, it seemed so much more well composed, then again the styles are a bit different. i am a huge fan of roger's lyrics, and once they started perfecting their style (meddle, which led to dsotm) it seemed like they could jam without that repetitiousness that i notice with the dead at times.
it's so hard to compare them tho, really.. cos my favorite dead shit is definitely live but most of my pink floyd is studio material.. i have a few pretty old recordings on cd but they're saucerful of secrets-era floyd.
i think a better comparison would be pink floyd vs. the beatles.

That's cool by me, but The Dead in 72,77, and some of the 80's is just some sick shit! Like Adrug said, it is like comparing apples to oranges.

IMHO, the only thing that kept PF from being just like the dead is they had hangups in recording companies, finances, and maybe even conflict of interest. But, if Floyd would've followed some of the dead's policies and philosophies, they would be every bit as good. Even the new floyd has it, but they're not giving it away enough, er something like that The dead pioneered in sound [wall of sound], P/F pioneered in show [lights], later the dead adopted those lighting schemes, but p/f originated it back in the 70's

i would say the floyd & the dead were both pioneers in sound.
