They are actually more rare in woods, check the search posts feature. There is a huge thread abouth them here which would be very helpful. Search for something like "weilii : the offical fall 2004" under thread subjects, spanning back more than a month. Skim through it some, there is a lot to read but lots of questions are answered.

If your near Atlanta weilii are the way to go.  But they wont be out for another month or two.  So find the official weilii thread and get to reading.

There are tons of Atlanta hunters on the boards. Do some searches, you'll find tons of threads.

In general, pan subbs grow all over the place from spring to fall. Weilii grow around the metro area sometimes in the spring, but mostly in the fall. Cubes can be found south of I20, with the occasional stable shaving cubes found farther north. Gyms in the fall. There's a few news species floating around the area too, but LK and I are keeping those secrets untill they get described and someone gets credit for them

Well, 1 month till the conditions might be right. But as Gumby pointed out they are only sometimes found in the spring.

Checked my 3 biggest patches from last fall but they were all empty. I still havent seen the first mushroom this year. Its gotta be to soon. Im curious to know why weilii dont tend to do as well in the spring? From what Ive heard they arnt near as abundant as they are in the fall. It seems the temperatures are about the same and spring time usually yields way more water than fall. Idk, maybe someone can help me out.

Do not eat! You did not list it properly.
What you gave could match a Gym.
List it proper for ID (Read the stickys at the top of the forum)

I have seen no signs of shrooms in my area yet (Powder Springs), and i have yet to find a weilii patch, maybe Powder Springs isnt a good location... I do however have a nice "cubified" cow pasture close to my home, and some Gym spots in the woods nearby. Cant wait for this season, its taking way too long (i will kill that fucking ground hog should the opportunity ever arise).

I went out hunting today in gainesville and suwanee for about 3-4 hours. I first checked my weilii patches from last fall and found absolutely nothing. Then I decided to look in some pastures for some cubes. Ive never hunted in pastures before so I wasnt sure how to go about it. My friend and I were thinking "should we just jump the fence and be really stealthy"? Or maybe come back at night? We decided to just go and ask the owners of the land and they were more that happy to let us look for mushrooms. I told them it was for a school project. Worked 3 out of 3 tries!:) The nice people said we could come back whenever we needed to do some research, hehe. Oh yeah we didnt find any cubes or signs of mycellium. Found my first mushroom of the season though! A couple of dried out boletes and a couple other randoms. The weather here in Georgia is absolutely beautiful and it shouldnt be to much longer, I hope.

Any body from around the Columbus area wanna go with me to get a few pounds of shrooms??
I know where this field called satan's field is.
Last year last harvest was 3 pounds.
The biggest was 14 inches tall with a 8 inch cap.
But anyway its way off in the country and I'd could use some help.
so maybe if anybody around west or southwest GA is wanting some free shit.
Oh yeah if you see a big blue flat circular shaped object in a field dont even waste your time.
The stuff is called dixie lix and kills all psilocybe.
Good advice is hard to come by.

I think you are exxagerating the size of your cube. an 8 inch cap would be extremely rare. So rare it would belong in the shroom hall of fame.

And farmers do not put chemicals or substances in their pasturelands to kill mushrooms, especially shrooms which grow from manure. That is pure bs and urban legend. Apparently you do not realize that the cows constanly eat the shrooms when they chew the grasses and alfalfas in their fields. If there were such poisons they would also kill the cattle.

mj

otherwise good luck and have a ashroomy day,

btw, an 8 inch cap is one inch larger than a 45 rpm. Think about that size.

Now a stem 8 inches high is more likely to happen than a cap.

AS for the size of your stem being 14 inches with an 8 inch cap, I grew some Orissa Indai cubes with stems 23 inches long and the caps were only a little over four inches in diameter.

A 14 inch shroom in the wild would not stand up and would be all bent and curved towards the ground from the weight.
