Thanks....What are some good mixes? I know I've read about coir, shell, manure, and lime but are there anymore? Could I use whole brown rice/verm maybe? Or brown rice flour/verm? The reason I'm asking is because materials around here are sparce.

ive used verm casing before they turn out pretty good. you'll get a better yield than a normal pf cake because of the larger surface area for pins.

Also, would I need to sterilize the verm?

Yes...You can do it in the microwave for about 9 mintues...let it cool over night and then put rehydrate it and then apply it to your casing...

And casings need less humidty (than cakes), so if humidty is a prob. for you, then that casing w/ def. help with moisture content...

Also, casing mixes help you tell how wet the casing is....Striaght verm. almost always looks the same, no biggy tho.

And:lol:, mixes are better b/c they give better aeration for myc. to break through...whereas verm is a bit denser...Gl

Could I use brown rice flour/verm for a mix? Even though that's my substrate?

No, casings should be non-nutritive. The flour would draw contaminates.
