Grey Dust
    #387929 - 09/07/01 12:16 PM (22 years, 6 months ago)

Been noticing on resent casings, that after first flush and a misting, that during the second or third flush there is a grey dust that seems to develop. Mostly looks like it's on small aborts or mycelium that was exposed. It never develops on fully grown fruits, but only on small aborts. Any clues?

I believe that's mycelia overtaking your aborts. It's not a problem.

I have a contaminant that may be the same as you are experiencing.

On the first flush of a 5 gallon bucket of dung, there developed a fine, greyish powder on the fruitbodies. Of the approximately 100 pins, 10 developed fully the others, grew to maturity. The ones that died, shriveled up. All of the caps of both the mature and immature mushrooms were small, dark brown and shriveled.

With my copy of Stamet's The Mushroom Cultivator, I have decided that this contaminant is probably either trichoderma or verticillium. Can anyone give any further information?
