Why won't Nevadans just bite the bullet?
    #3879276 - 03/06/05 09:02 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Yucca Mountain is the perfect site.
We got to collect up our nuclear waste someplace. It's totally stupid having it scattered across the country in all these little wimpy storage facilities.
Yucca mountain lets us put it deep underground.
Noone lives there, or anywhere near it.
The Saltstone is impermeable to water, impermeable to anything.
Over time it wraps itself around whatever is inside of it, like metal silly putty.

Nevadans are saying not in my backyard, just like everyone else in the country, except they don't have any good excuse.

You know what that means. That means Nevadans are worse snobs than Connecticutians. That's right I said it. Sacrifices gotta be made.

What if the rocket blows up? Oh, and how many tons of this shit are we talking about? Thousands and thousands? Hundred thousand? More? How many rockets will this take? To reach escape velocity, not orbit velocity. Nope, not practical.

Funny that the most parasitic state in the union is bitching. (Not so funny that the most parasitic city is the fastest growing.)

I mean it's easy to understand where Nevadans are coming from. Their state was pretty much a nuclear test lab during the cold war.

But yeah, they need to just shut up and accept Yucca. It's pretty much the only reasonable solution to the growing problem of storing nuclear waste. And geologically, Nevada is the only place in America (and probably the best place in the world) for waste to be buried. The only other concievable idea I've heard is drilling the waste into subducting oceanic plates and letting it slowly drift towards the Earth's core. But that idea is hypothetical.

As think as long as the Yucca project is properly funded, I think it's best way to go.

Haha, nothin man, I'm just teasing, always teasing.
See in Connecticut, you got the gold coast, greedy greedy greedies! But that's not all the way from Greenwich to Stonington, that's just from Greenwich to New Haven. Further East people are basically the same as Rhode Islanders, people in Mystic and New London, that's decent people. See now people up in Cornwall, they're the same as people in Southwest Mass. they're good people too, it's all just a gradual spectrum.

I say we store the waste in Arizona.  Arizona would be a safe place to store it plus it would give me a good reason to move.

... or better yet we could spread it out on the boarder, and solve the lack of immigration enforcement and waste problem in one shot

That would make for quite an interesting night-time satellite photo.

PEACE

:mushroom2:zippoz:mushroom2:

"in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption"

"People do it every day, they talk to themselves ... they see themselves as they'd like to be, they don't have the courage you have, to just run with it."

Or further develop other methods of power (solar which is now fairly inexpensive and alot more efficient), wind, anti-matter studies are advancing signifigantly.. and that doesn't produce any waste bi-product... couple that with re-processing current nuclear waste while you're at it..
