I've been thinking about how obviously there are lots of people who visit this site and don't check out the message boards. Alot of these people have picked mushrooms and come to this site looking for ID's. I get emails on a regular basis from just such individuals.
So heres an idea, we have on the main page menu a link to "Need mushroom ID?" or something of the sort, then have a place where a person can upload their pics, and have a spot that you mushroom hunter experts can reply and let the people know what they may have.....
I know many of you will ask why is this necessary if we have the mushroom hunting forum, the simple answer is that many people aren't that familiar with the internet, message boards, uploading pics, etc....
But I am open to ideas, suggestions, criticisms.... I think that as mushroom hunting is gaining in popularity that we owe a duty to help ensure these amateurs have a place to go for ID's and obviously a place where we all can catch them before they go do something stupid like eating the wrong mushroom.

Right on! Yeah, people need an internet place to contact, before they go and eat something that could hurt or kill them!
I totally agree! I have no suggestions, as I trust your decisions in the past about the setup!

Maybe we could make a disclamer page before they get to the actual forums. Basicaly telling them that if we fuck up, its not our fualt. Also we could include examples of questions *NOT* to ask such as "Hey, i found this brown mushroom in cow shit, i r eats it will i be m4xx trip0rz?" or "Is these trippin shrooms?"or "I hear mushrooms grow on shit, is this true?" or "What kind of mushrooms grow in ?"
I don't know about everyone else but those type of questions really just piss me off, if people would read the grow/find section of the shroomery they wouldnt have to ask such ignorant fucking questions. Erm.. I'll shut up now, subject is starting to anger me.

I agree with you GumbyDude, about people posted ignorant-ass questions. Although, you gotta realize that some people have no clue as to what a magic mushroom is! I sympathize with the ignorants! Hell, it's kinda fun to answer a stupid question with a stupid answer, too!
Yeah, if a webster can find the forums, they can surely find the Grow/Find section. If I knew nothing about mushrooms I may just jump to the boards, too! Some people are either in a hurry, or just want a hunter to give them a straight-forward answer.
I've got an idea, although it might not be possible. OK, consider the experienced hunters on the boards were given some sort of internet pager, sort of like the internet call managers that some of us use. If a newbie enters a request into the Shroom ID area, the hunters would get a page and those who are surfing, etc. will be alerted(kinda like MSMessenger or something) and those who wish to respond can do so. Those newbies who just want a quick answer might get one! Lots of newbies who type up those ignorant questions probably never even come back to read their responses. If we gave them quick, accurate responses, they just might gain interest in the subject. I always like to see new people turned on to the science of fungi!
You know, We can be given passwords to access the area. This way, if we want to read it, we can. If not, it's not sitting on our Mushroom Hunting BB!
Hell, it's a thought. Might be possible, might not. I dunno!
I'm kinda crazy, though!

having just recently found this board, after years of study and frustration, i can relate that it is a little difficult to find where one wants to go when first opening the site. there is little instruction as to where to go first, ie you could say
"for best results, please read the information in the column to the left to be sure that you are not simply asking a question that has been answered repeatedly. click on the headings that resemble what you would like to explore" etc. etc.
