Difference between print and syringe?
    #3878561 - 03/06/05 06:43 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

I am new to shroom cultivation and have been reading about all the different types of growing techniques and cubensis species. I want to start cultivating mushrooms but still none of the sites I have been to tell me what the difference between spore prints and syringes are as far as the difference in growth and difficulty working with. If anybody can tell me what the difference is I would really appreciate it. Also what species of cubensis do you guys recommend for the beginner?

Print is spores from cap laid on paper, tinfoil, of other flat media.

Syringe is spores in fluid, in a syringe.

Newbies want to start with syringes from a vendor, as you can screw up a print - easy.

A spore print is a collection of spores dropped from the underside of the mushroom cap unto sterile paper or foil. A small section of a spore print can be scraped off to make an entire syringe. You can get several syringes off of a spore print, this is what vendors do, and it's what you can do when you gain more experience.

Syringes are spores suspended in sterile water, scrapings from the spore print as I just mentioned. The idea here is to have a user friendly delivery system of getting the spores to your media, i.e. substrate. You have to work to screw this one up, keeping sterile here is as simple as wiping the needle with alcohol and injecting your spores hastily.

Pick a tek from the grow guides, then buy a syringe or two from a vendor. Any strain works fine. Offhand B+ and GT are great beginner strains IMO, but then again they all are spectacular.

PF cake means Psylocybe Fanaticus cakes. (So named, because this tek was devised & sold eons ago by a fellow calling himself Psylocybe Fanaticus.) This tek is so foolproof it pretty much launched the grow-at-home community we have today. Here's the tek listing here at the Shroomery: http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23593

It's a good tek to start with because with a little care, you can guarantee yourself a good harvest with a minimal investment & effort. Like they say, start with this, then experiment later. The nice thing about this hobby is there is a lot of lag time after the mushrooms start growing, and you can use this time to read here at The Shroomery & decide what your future plans will be.

While there are tons of variations on the PF Tek, that's all most of them are is variations. When you go to the "Basic Grow Guides" section of the shroomery, those are all different variations of the original PF Tek. Read them all, each of them explains certain parts of the process better than the others. After reading them two or three times apiece, you'll be able to come back to the forum and ask some decent questions, and we'll get you lined out and ready to grow in no time.

Excerpt from one of my textbooks:
Therefore, between a then and its matching else, there cannot be an if statement without an else. Statements must be distinguished between those that are matched and those that are unmatched, where unmatched statements are else-less ifs and all other statements are matched.
I wonder if that would make more sense if I was tripping when I read it.
