cakes or casing?
    #3878273 - 03/06/05 05:55 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Should I case or use cakes? This is my first time to actually have fully colonized jars. I have about 6 of them almost finished. I just want alot of shrooms. My main question is how many more shrooms can you get from casing compared to cakes? Lets say you put 2 colonized jars into casing and then you put 2 other colonized jars to grow as cakes. Which one would grow the more shrooms and how much?

With casings it is certainly easier to get the right moisture content supplied through a casing layer versus trying to fruit cakes at 95%+ RH. It's funny that casings have always been considered tier 2 to cakes in terms of difficulty. I personally find it harder to get a cake to fruit well then a casing, any day.

Casings are user friendly. I find a 1/4" casing layer works best.

I'll 2nd that, my cakes always failed. I only tried cakes once, I did 12 jars all colonized all made it to fruiting, I yeilded about 15g off all 12. never looked at a cake again after that. get casing down and move into grain, you won't regret it

dunked, but not rolled, did nothing wrong, followed teks exatly, just cakes aren't my thing. ya that was dry weight

casings are the way to go, and no harder than cakes some examples of my casings

I am the opposite, Im trying desperately with casing but I havent been getting good yields.

When I dunk and roll my cakes I have been able to get 2oz dry from 12 cakes on the first flush.

Im sure casings are superior as everyone says that but for me Im still working on what works best for me.

well i think im going to try casing. would this work?-

i was thinking of just putting a surrounding outer layer of tinfoil at the bottom of my growing container then would place the casing in there. the only problem would be the humidity. if i just squirted the out layer of the chamber with water everyday would that keep the humidity right?

The search function maybe?
http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/3168
^Search....
Keyword: Dunk Tek and/or Rolling in Verm.
Try google and shroomery searches, Gl

Don't do cakes, they need 95-99% humidity, misting won't achieve that, and perlite needs to go on the buttom, you need to put ur sub. in pans and put the pans in ur chamber.....Casings need 90-95% humidity, misting won't achieve that but it'd help to, and perlite is badass when it comes to not using anything eletrical.

If you want something automated, Search, Keyword: PmP

Hey cybert, that's not completely true =/

You can use JUST verm. and have a nice moist sub. right? Wrong, it's missing something really important, Nutes

More nutes + Water=

Not flaming, just stating info.

O, i forgot, it's 92% percent water, That's why you dont get something like this..

Yield Wet: 100gs-->Dried:10.0

It's typically 100gs-->Dried:9.0, or a bit more or a bit less, ect ect.
