 Jiffy Grow tablets instead of Coco Coir?

I have been all over the place and can not find Coco Coir anywhere! I can only find these Jiffy Grow tablets that sound simular to Coco Coir as in they expand with water.
The Jiffys have a mixture of peat and soil in them.
Would this be an ok substution of coco coir, or would i be wasting my time.
I was reading the worm casting post and another question.
Can I put worm castings in the PF Tek. Would that increase anything or hinder.

I live in a fairly big city,160,000, and couldn't find coco coir either. Finally ordered it on line at Weigold Productions DBA Growstuffplus.com. 11 pound brick, delivered to my door, $20.35 shipping included. Had it in 5 days. Good luck. Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony. HippieChick.

I couldn't find coco coir only coco fiber, i.e. the coconut fiber and this is at Petco!!!

Go to www.google.com and search for it online. You can buy a ton of it or small quantities in a variety of different places.

I can find the coco fiber, but thats not the same thing, is it? They have that at all the places. I will try Petco though in a minute and see what they have.

Hard to shop at mycosupply since I got ripped off for over 60 bucks for the impluse sealer I bought. My fault, but that is just ripping people off so I will never shop thier again.

Sure it will. You can try differing amounts in with PF Tek jars, or learn how to pasteurize (look in the FAQ's there are multiple ways) and make PF jars, pasteurize a large amount of worm castings and mix them up once the PF jars are colonized (called "spawning" search and read the FAQ's for more info). Then case then and get huge trays full.

If you can find them jiffy grow tablets, there should be some seed started mix, or jiffy mix laying around. I found some at walmart, I picked it up to try it out. Looks light on the verm but I plan on adding more. It was right next to the jiffy grow tablets. Comes with buffer added...I'm not sure how much but I plan on adding some more powdered oyster shells as well.

Why would you want to use cococoir as a casing layer? A few people have said that it is not an ideal casing layer and that you should use something else like peat or vermeculite. After all in the commercial industry peat moss is what they use for their casing layers, correct?
Alot of people get overlay from casing with coco-coir, I know with my first casings I got overlay, and I used 60-40 coir-verm.
Anyways, just trying to push in the right direction, I mean some people still prefer coir, but for the 1st time casers, I would suggest something else.
Also worm castings can be found at www.wormsway.com they are similar to poo, in that mushies love them and you get great yields when doing a 50/50 wormcastings/straw mix. (like a horse poo replacement), and also if you want to use horse poo, Mycosupply.com sells dehydrated poo pellets that expand when you wet them, so 1lb of poo pellets makes 10lbs of poo. A very usefull item for those wanting to spawn to poo.

Coir/verm is a perfectly fine mix. Peat requires buffer. Its prefered, but if your not wanting to deal with a buffer, you'll get better results from the coir.
