be sure to know what to look for when you buy them at a thrift store. bought one, an old kaz, without a hollow tube (didnt know the kaz' need them). the next one worked (check em out in the store) but sparked when we got home. finally broke down and bought a vicks at walmart for 24$, so 10$ isnt bad :) thanks for the link

I bought a Holmes FamilyCare CoolMist humidifier a couple of weeks ago. It looks different than that one.

After about 15 hours of total usage, mine broke. I had just gotten it setup all nice and proper and hoses setup perfectly, and then it fried itself. I think my problem was that I had it enclosed in too small of an area and it got too humid. It said never use in an area with more than 50% RH, so maybe it was too humid and died from it. Dunno, but was impressed that I could void my warranty and break it in such record time.
