Pleurotus Djamor (Pink Oyster) Papertowels Growlog - fruiting 1

hey!
well so i decided to use some of the pink oyster spawn to fix a little log following EXACTLY (more or less ) the NCBE microbiology guide for oyster mushroom cultivation.
so i got some spawn ready, this is Pleurotus Djamor spawn on rye, started from a sporeprint:
here we got some paper roll (w00t !!!):
so i poured a lot of boiling water in the inside of the roll, i put some extra paper on the bottom and fixed it with a rubberband (allright i didnt really follow the guide exactly heh)
anyway, after it was all hot n steamy, i poured of the water and covered the whole thing with alufoil and let it cool 3 hours.
then the inner cardboard was removed, the spawn shaken up, poured inside, put the whole thing in a trashbag, taped it shut, some rubberbands to hold the whole thing together and uhm jeah, this is how it looks:
so i poke some holes into the trashbag and will coldshock it in 2 weeks, i wonder if it will all turn out good
heres a link to what inspired me to do that log: http://www.ncbe.reading.ac.uk/NCBE/MATERIALS/MICROBIOLOGY/oyster.html peace ohm
the fruiting stage allright, so it was 100% for some time i decided to cut open the "log" and look inside. you could clearly see that iwas very pinkish from the outside but the camera couldnt get it.
well heres a peek on the top:
as you can see the spawn grew into the paper, colonising it. in nature it was way pinker than in the pic, but you get an idea.
anyway, since i wawnted to huild something fancy again and had this great translucent tub around i decided to fix a custom PMP for the log.
so i did:
allright, well, guess its waiting time now, pins are on the toilet paper already, and keeping in mind that i used a quart of rye spawn in it, i think it should put out some nice fruits.
allright ill keep ya dated, so far it has been fun peace ohm
day 1 into fruiting allright, so the baby has been one night in the custom PMP and i can tell you she sure loves it.
overnight a new patch of pins occured and the one i partially destroyed removing the plastic has, as far as i can tell, recovered quite well.
it is getting constantly fresh air through the pump which is off during the night time, but thats it.
the pins i saw yesterday also developed a bit, i wonder how fast theyll grow.
so, overall, its looking real tight go oysters go ! peace ohm
day 2 into fruiting well well, the pins i ripped off when removing the plastic have recovered and look quite ok.
some of the big ones that survived are developing nicely and already have the tube like charakteristik form.
i think that i maybe supply them with a bit too much fresh air b/c they seem to grow more during the night when the airpump is off than during the day - but maybe i fool myself b/c i look quite often during the day hehe.
anyway, on 2 new spots it looks like pins are developing so, if they do not abort, this project should prove to be a successs.
im really excited to see how this progresses peace ohm
day 4 or 5 into fruiting, no idea yadda yadda people, here comes fucking radical news !
sooo i had to open the PMP b/c there was some suspicious black spot that more or less pledged for peroxide treatment, so i thought why not shoot some pics if i have to fuck with its sterility.
sooooo, here we go, first of a total of the roll:
different angle:
pretty cool eh?
so heres a closeup of the 'oldest' and most developed patch so far:
the other two patches, note the suspicious spots in the rectangle:
aight i dont know if its mold but after few drops pf 30% h2o2 (lets bring out the bigguns on that one heh) it was like a bit of bubbling so i guess it was mold. anyway, i must say that i am so far VERY pleased by the way the patches develop and there is primodia all over the top of the roll i think you can see that in one of the pics.
so, besides the fact that they are growing ridiculously slow due to my room being pretty cold, i got to say that i am pretty pleased and well well, lets see how it goes on peace ohm
some later .. since the growth was like nearly stalled, i moved it to a place where it gets it 80 degrees. i hope i didnt screw it all up, exposing it for so long to cold temperatures, wish me luck id sure love to munch them oysters .. peace ohm
updaaaaaaaaaaaate hey gals !
so b/c i spplied the wrong fruiting conditions relating to air exchange and temp, i completely rearranged the pod and put it to a warmer place with air exchange and bla and guess what, they started to grow
ill let the pics talk for themselves, i shot some pics when i fixed the plastic sheeting on top of the bin / replaced water.
here we go, that one shows the pin-patches on the top middle of the 'log':
primodia galore! :
a closeup on a patch, notice the awesome white 'antlers' :
anmd finally, a total of this sexy babe :
kicks ass dont it? i wonder why its still growing so slow now even that i AM supplying proper fruiting conditions right now.
also it looks so awesome to have these white pieces in there peace ohm

Haha that's a great little way to do a log. Are you just going to break up your colonized oysters and put them into the middle of the paper towel roll? Seems like you could easily make a nice-sized grow w/ paper towel rolls to where it's not too small nor too big. Nice job

That's beautiful, i'd love to see some pictures of djamor growing on tissue paper... I guess someone should move it to growlogs though...

the only thing in favor of toilet paper rolls is density of the substrate--TP seems to have more material than paper toweling usually--esp. the new "double-rolls". I would assume this ultimately correlates with yield.

ever seen a pink toilet paper roll with pink primodia on it? looks wicked i tell ya
im just building a small terrarium for it and then ill carefully remove the sheeting and put it into fruiting conditions.
wish me luck that i do not destroy the primodia when removing the plastic and transferring it into the terrarium, i am sort of concerned it will suffer :/
anyone knows, if i really kill the primodia, if it should / will make some new ones? it looks VERY healthy!

In fact some damage will help to promote pinning. There is a technique called "scratching" in which the cultivator scratch the surface of the mycelium:
"In Japan, bottle production of oyster mushrooms is most common (Figures 6a?d). Bottle production also is increasing in popularity in the United States. Substrate is filled into bottles contained in trays (usually 16 bottles per tray), sterilized, and inoculated with Pleurotus spp. spawn (Figure 6a?d). Upon completion of spawn run, bottle lids are removed and the surface of the substrate is scratched mechanically (1 to 2 millimeters of substrate surface containing mycelium are removed). Scratching is required to stimulate the mycelium to produce mushroom primordia uniformly on the surface. After the mushrooms are harvested, they are weighed and packaged for shipment to market (Figures 7a?d).
