My new brew kettle
    #3876930 - 03/06/05 01:15 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Check out my new 15.5 Gallon Brew Kettle. Its a Miller keg that had the top sawed off and drilled with a 1 inch ball valve, 3/4 reducer, nipple, and elbow.

For the first brew with the pot, I thought I would make something special.

Is it possible to do a double batch with that thing? Did you make that or have it made? Its badass!

How much did it cost to outfit that keg?

I've been looking at the 60Qt Polarware kettle in the Northern Brewer catalog.

OG: 1.140.  :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Have you ever had Upland's Barley Wine?

Out of curiosity, perhaps you can give me some advice.  I have an IPA that has been in secondary fermentation for a month or more.  The specific gravity has been at 1.018 for nearly a week.  This is several thousands higher than the finishing gravity in the recipe.  Is it done?  Can I bottle?

$20 for the keg
$0 friend that sawed off the top and drilled a hole in the top.
$28 for ballvalve, elbow, nipple, reducer
$17 getting a guy to weld it on

for about $30 you could fit a 1300watt heater in it instead of using a burner.

Very nice. I've got a keg sitting around that I've been planning to do the same with. I've just been trying to figure a way to cut the top at an angle so I can use it as a lid. It's not required, but I'd still like to have it.

good to have a lid but drill a hole right in the middle of it, this pic here is the same thing all i have to do is unscrew the condenser and i have the same thing...but without the propane burner
