Double end/perlite ???
    #3876416 - 03/06/05 09:58 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Hi there I'm nearing the end of colonization 1/2 pint brf, and am planning on doing a dunk and roll. Also I'm now thinking about doing a double end casing? Good idea, bad idea? Also instead of (for the double end casing) having the cake sit on top of the moist verm filled jar lid could I just sit the cake directly on the perlite and then just put moist verm on top of the cake? Seems like less of a mission and a cleaner option, of course if the same purpose is still achieved. Thanks peps sorry bout the irritating questions.  :smirk:

No. Keep your cakes on the lids filled with moist vermiculite. Much better! And yes, the doble end casing tek is great with cakes. You only need around an 1/8" of moist vermiculite on the tops of the cakes. Good luck.

Oh! Sorry about that. I didn't thoroughly read your ? Don't just put your cakes directly on the perlite. Cakes on moistened vermiculite in the lids is the way to go. And dunking after birth is great. I'd skip the rolling in vermiculite and just double end case them. Cakes like to have some breathing room.

Try it out if you want. I personally don't like it. But that's MHO. I find that most of the fruits grow off the top and bottom casings anyway, even using the roll method.
