Test for psilocybin in mushroom?
    #3875546 - 03/06/05 02:42 AM (12 years, 27 days ago)

Hi, I'm new here, and I've been reading through the enormous amount of knowledge possessed here and have been just overwhelmedspiceworld420.com and intrigued. I was a little lost on where to post this and did a search and couldn't find anything related, but it seemed like it might be applicable to put it here.  Anyway I was wondering if there was any good way to test for psilocybin in a mushroom(besides eating it), also I was wondering if there were any psilocybin producing mushrooms that are TRULY poisonous.  Again, If this has already been posted, just tell me where to go..... in any way you see fit.....

To tell if a mushroom contains psilocin or psilocybin, you need to cut, tear, or squeeze the stem pretty hard and bruise it. When you injure a psilocybe mushroom, they turn BLUE. Not green, black, or brown. It will be very obviously blue, and should only take 3-5 seconds for it to change. The blueing is caused by oxidation of Psilocybin and Psilocin, which effectively render them inactive, so just tear of the very bottom of the stem as to not ruin the chemistry. Also, there are no poisionous Psilocybe mushrooms, but there are other trippy mushrooms that can be poisionous, most commonly the Amanita family that contain the chemical "Beyocystine" (sp?)
