 Using GPS built into cellphone.

Most cellphones these days have a GPS in them, if I'm not mistaken, although I may be. Anyway, my phone has the GPS , and if it can't pick up anything my signal goes out, or some shit like that. I was wondering if there was anyway I could somehow hack it, or program it ,or unlock it to use that information to use the phone as a GPS too, since it's built into the phone but I can't use it now.

yea i got gps on my phone too. i have it turned off but i doubt that really stops anything its kinda creepy good thing my phone aint in my name.

So you want to use your phone (which emits a GPS signal) as a GPS receiver with graphical maps like those in in-car GPS systems? There may be some software out there that can use your phone's bluetooth (if it has it) to connect to a pocketPC on which the maps can be displayed BUT.. I really don't think a typical phone will be powerful enough or have nearly enough memory to support GPS functionality on its own.
That's just my guess. Anyone else want to tackle this one?

ive tried using trimble outdoors on my nextel i860 , it showed heading speed coordinates, i wanted to load street maps in it and have it show me a moving loc on the street map. i dont think you can do this though.
