My reggae tastes lean towards roots, dub, drum & bass.
jimmy cliff is good roots.
lee scratch perry, black uhuru, burning spear, abyssinians, dub syndicate, mad professor, steel pulse, alpha & omega, king tubby sly & robbie that's all I can think of for now.

i love shit like that, but my fav is actually sublime. 311's reggae type stuff is also good. but i love old school reggae like marley and steel pulse, always great to listen to, those are some of my favs as well.

Grabbed from the first Peter Tosh bio I could google...
Quote:
On September 11, 1987 Peter Tosh was murdered by three intruders. The leader was a man named Dennis 'Leppo' Lobban, a man whom Peter had befriended and tried to help find work after a long jail sentence. The three came in demanding money and when Tosh told them that he did not have any with him they simply shot him. Dennis Lebbo turned himself over to the authorities, and was tried and convicted in the shortest jury deliberation in Jamaican history, eleven minutes. As for the other two assailants, neither were found, although the rumor is that both were gunned down in the streets. Whether this was purely a robbery, or an assassination plot is yet to be determined. Many believe that there were ulterior motives to the killing, citing that nothing was taken from the house. Peter neither resisted, nor did he cause commotion. The government had been trying for years to eliminate Tosh, a feat which was finally accomplished at the hands of his friend.

well, it seems people have already posted all my favorites.
i'm a huge fan of roots reggae and dub, mainly.
especially some of Scratch's albums from the 70s where he was all tripped out.
although i'll enjoy dancehall, ragga, or whatever if i'm out on the town - when i'm at my house, it's all about the really chilled out shit for me.
for anybody who doesn't know anything at all about roots reggae - go get "Marcus Garvey" and "Garvey's Ghost" by Burning Spear - that'll explain it.
