The best things in life I can't have
    #3874104 - 03/05/05 08:41 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I'm in a shitty mood. My sister has this friend, that i'm pretty sure likes me and i'm pretty sure I have a very certain interest in her. But when it's time to be social I become a really big coward. I was told I have "social anxiety" or some shit. some symptoms are sweaty hands, I twitch, and my heart will continuesly pound hard and fast. I'm so sick of this, it's really getting in the way of EVERYTHING. I wish I could just tell her how I feel, but it's so hard for me. I don't really have a question to ask for anyone, maybe just some advice. I don't know. I was also told I am severly depressed I think they called it. This is a long and to most probably pointless, but just try to imagine what it's really like to not be able to these type of things. it really tears me up inside. I'm sorry if this seems like some type of cry for attention, I didn't want to really aim it that way

To get over your anxiety you should spend more time around people. The more practice you have at socializing, the more comfortable you will be around people, esp. in a party setting. Try not to think too hard or too much about what to say, instead let your words flow naturally. All the other people in this world, they are not so different from you. When you meet someone with an overwhelming personality or superinflated ego, respond to them in kind and you will suprise yourself sometimes at what words come out.

The only way to overcome fears is to overcome them.Just do it.Just say whatever comes to mind and relax and everything will be just fine and when you see that you wont need to fear it any more.

No amount of mental prep work is really going to help your fear.

Yeah dont over think the situation. thinking too much in a negative mindset just leads to more negative passageways. If your going to think think about the positive things. its all about switching your gears in your mind to expect the better not the worse. im going through the same thing man and no matter how many stupid things may be just believe they will turn out for the good and THEY WILL. good luck

I sometimes twitch a lot in social situations. I don't know why, but it tends to be around people I dislike.

mmm, what's the worst that could happen? what if she knows you like her? is that a crime? people like people all the time. in fact, i'm pretty sure we'd be extinct by now if we didn't experience a sexual attraction to each other.

erm, regardless, i used to get really nervous around girls. i still get nervous around some girls, but they tend to be the girls i don't want to be with anyways.

btw, you'll know if she likes you. if you think she might, the situation will come up where you can act on it, lean in and kiss her. don't think about it. that's how i got a lot more comfortable with girls anyways. and vaulting over rails. don't think about it after you know what it is you gotta do.

the only way to overcome an irrational fear is to ignore it, and do what you gotta do. you afraid of heights? climb a tree. afraid of water? go swimming. ya get me?

good luck buddy.
