best cube strains for Outdoor Beds
    #3873211 - 03/05/05 04:23 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Im getting ready to start 2 outdoor beds on straw/manure. I want them to keep flushing all spring, summer, and into fall. I know i want some Golden Teachers for one, but im unsure on the other. Im thinking either PESA, Brazilian, Mexicube, B+, or Amazonian. what do you guys think?

Cubensis is not ideal for outdoor you want a woodloving strain like azurescens or cyanescens.

Depends on where you live.

If you live in a warm climate that has warm temps all year...you possible could.

I live in the PNW...and we can only get a few months of Cubensis growing outdoors during the year.

The "A" strain is a very good Cubensis strain for outdoor culivation.
It seems to do very well in warmer weather also.

good luck!~

I live in Southern IL. We have about 6 months or a little more of 55-95 degree weather. I've been reading teks and they all act like growing Cubes outdoors in my kind of climate will produce very large nice flushes over and over for the 6 month period. I'm just spawning some colonized rye of brf into the beds here in about 6 weeks.

I know the PESA, mexicube, and amazonians all are supposed to do well in cooler temps. too. it will be kind of cool when i first spawn them out there. about 60 average.

55 degrees F. isn't going to work out too well.

Try mexicub. It can handle a wide range of temps. Although I'd highly recommend cyans. From what I've read it just seems like they're easier to do. Never done either... yet... but if I was I'd probably go with the cyans.

i disagree.... cubensis are ideal.... I mean look at where they come from, outside.. I live in the Midwest, the same as the poster does, and I've had VERY good luck with outdoor Cubensis beds... I've used a variety of strains, but I think i preferred treasure coast... Not for flush size, but for potency... but from person to person, I'm sure that will fluctuate... Any way you do it, it should be good... Main key would be patience.... When its this time of year, or even 6 weeks from now, the mycelium will be growing very very slowly.... But once it gets really warm, it should blow up. I love doing this hobby outdoors... The fruits just don't stop amazing me. My bottom line is this, if you want to do cubes outdoors, please do... The bed my friend had last year produced flushes of 1/4-1/2 pounds dry at a time.... for around 3 months.... It was HUGE however.. Ok, enough babbling.... Just do it... lol

I do however JTK disagree that you will have 6 months of flushes.... I would say more like 3.... so make it big, and water it often

Ah I wish I still lived at my old place, the outdoor beds rock indoor growing sometimes.

Well like I said... I've never done either outside so my opinion was more of an observation of other people's opinions.

But then again, cyans are no doubt more potent than cubes, and are much harder to grow inside. For somebody like me, who has a hard enough time getting cubes to grow, it's an opportunity to grow something new. Just for that reason alone I'd choose them. I'm moving to the Southeast coast in a few months. USDA hardiness zone 8. I'll probably have big patches of both scattered around.
