    #3872366 - 03/05/05 11:38 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I am leaving out of town for a week and i wont have the time to get more vermicultae before i leave to make a batch and was wondering if fine grade verm. would slow down grow or make any difference compared to the larger grade..

Finer grade verm will result in a less airy texture in cake substrate, and the same goes for casings. Definitely let the substrate fall in your jar especially when using finer grade; it compacts easier then larger grade. I find finer verm over saturates easily too--I personally don't like using it in casings anymore for that reason.

It does make the best dry verm contam barrier though.

An observation I would make is that the fine grade verm doesn't allow as much aeration as large grade.
