This is kinda of a crazy thoery but do you think you could train a dog to sniff out cubensis mushrooms? I have heard of people using dogs to locate underground truffles so it doesnt seem to far fetched, lol would make it easy as hell to find em anywhere if you had a dog like that:-)
mod edit: thread title; for better search results.

Forget training the dog to smell cubes(besides cubes dont grow up here,, in Canada.... except for in the summer, in some "special areas" )
Training the dogs to smell the psilocybin, now that would be cool.

I'm almost sure they can train dogs to sniff mushrooms. I'm not sure if they can smell the difference between psilocybin containing mushrooms and other mushrooms. This topic has been discussed many times in this forum and I've never seen good evidence of dogs who are trained to sniff out mushrooms. There are some stupid stories, but I don't believe them.
Here are some links: http://www.co.stearns.mn.us/departments/sheriff/safety/k9.htm (They say that dog can sniff LSD. I don't think that's true.)

^^Im pretty sure LSD is completely oderless...not just to humans, but it doesnt produce anything that would give off a smell.

I remember someone providing info about dog training...
And LSD was definetly one of the drugs they can train the dogs to smell for, though I don't know how.

Some asshole chemical company has made a chem with similar properties to LSD, without the very low dose range. Some dogs get trained to smell LSD I'm not sure how many.
Don't quote me on this though.

It was posted in the pub...
LSD itself has no smell, so the dog is probably trained to smell the leftovers from various solvents used to dissolve the crystal

LSD has no smell for humans, but the nose of a dog is different. I don't know if they can smell LSD and I don't think they can smell such small amounts, but it's not correct to say that dogs can't smell LSD because it has no smell for humans.

Alcohol is used to dissolve the LSD crystals so there are no leftovers.

erowid's LSD FAQ says:
Quote:
LSD : Generic name for the hallucinogen lysergic acid diethylamide-25. Discovered by Dr. Albert Hofmann in 1938, LSD is one of the most potent mind-altering chemicals known. A white, odorless powder (EROWID NOTE : LSD generally comes in "blotter" form; small squares of paper which have been soaked in liquid LSD. It is also found as a liquid, microdot, sugar cubes, and gelatin squares, but is quite rare as a "white, odorless powder") usually taken orally, its effects are highly variable and begin within one hour and generally last 8-12 hours, gradually tapering off. It has been used experimentally in the treatment of alcoholics and psychiatric patients.
It is not clearly stated whether humans simply cannot smell it... I assume by odorless, they mean odorless; however, the liquid LSD as well as the carriers are not odorless and probably more odorous than LSD, even for a dog... So it seems reasonable to me that they would train to find the carriers.

Ask Erowid: Does anyone know if it is possible to taste LSD?, i.e. A bottle of Sweet Breath that may have been dosed was found by one of my fellow security guards at a party and it made it's way around to me and I was wondering if there's anyway to tell without just taking some.
Quote:
LSD is active in doses of under 1/10 of a milligram. That small of a quantity is completely tasteless. While LSD may have a taste in larger quantities, you would likely need to take several thousand doses to be able to tell. Some people say they can taste a slight metallic taste to blotter acid, but it would certainly not be strong enough to overcome the flavor of breath mint drops.
If you have access to a U.V. light, LSD glows white under blacklight. This is probably the easiest methods for identifying LSD both in liquid form and on blotter.
Hope this helps.
Taste is some large percentage smell (I believe something like 70%?) so yeah. It seems reasonable to me that the overpowering smell of the carrier would be easier for them to train for than the actual "smell" of LSD, assuming there is one.
