Woodloving shooms, for newbies?
    #3871688 - 03/05/05 04:43 AM (11 years, 10 months ago)

I am thinking of stepping into the world of wood-loving shooms, is this a major step from p. cub.?  or should i expect some completely different conditions? i'm well set-up for grain-loving shrooms now. what kind of new materials, or supplies will i need? i'm very interested in doing something different and more challenging, but i'm a little intimidated just because not nearly as many people try to grow wood loving shrooms. Well, any insight would help me out tremendously!!! thanx 4 any help in advance.

Wood loving=outdoors=a whole new world. If you want to step up a notch and stay indoor, look to grass (Tampanensis, Mexicana) or dung (pan cyans) lovers. If your cool with the outdoor wood thing...check out the advanced forum and search around for info on growing them.

I was wondering what the wood lover does as and inside shroom, is there some thing you can add to the casing to make fruit more... as I understand it does not like growing indoors and hardly fruits... more calcium maybe??? oyster shells???

No. The problem is they have very speicif environmental conditions that are VERY different from cubies, including their fruiting temperatures being in like 50s or 60s.

They can be done inside, but you need to be really experienced for that sort of thing. I've only heard of it happening a few times and they were all people whove been doing this a while.

ok, so much for the wood/outdoors, maybe in the future... ok, about the pan cayans (dung) would that be a nice step up from cubies? on a scale of 1-10 (2-4 being cubies) how would the pan. cayans. rate as far as difficulty to grow. and also would i need a whole different set-up to grow dung or grass seed loving shrooms? or would i just need a few extra things? also, is there a specific species that you have worked with or would recommend? thank you for your help!
thanks!

Check out the FAQ's and the archieve link below:

I cannot say for sure, I havnt cultivated them yet (just knocked up a jar the other day), but from what people say..if cubies are about a 3, cyans are a 5,6ish. Grass is a different thing...truffles (stones) but fruits are hard to get (not so much from Mexicana). The stones are easy, but arent shrooms, for the shrooms difficultys like 6,7,8ish depending. From the sounds of it, you'll want to stick with Pan cyans (NOT PS. Cyans, thats a wood lover).

They require pretty much the same as cubies. There are some small differences, including you need to spawn to dung to get decent fruits. Temps, humidity all pretty much the same. Keeping the casings at 85% is a little more important, as is air exchange. Potency however is huge increase. Anywhere from 2-4 times the potency of cubies. Start with a gram or less for the first trial, this could feel like well over an eigth!

BTW, only worked with Tamps...fun...but if your looking for results...stick with Pans..I'm trying them myself now, I'd really like to get into them.
