Im pretty sure that you would be fine. Im not sure, but I dont thik you need permission when using images like that for artwork. Like all those airbrush fuckers at the mall that sell paintings of all kinds of famous people, I dont think they get permission. I dont think anyones gonna hastle you for trying to make ends meet/ Its not like your getting filthy rich off of the work, just trying to pay rent.

You're in a tough spot. When you go to temp/employment agencies try for clerical work. That could get your foot in the door. Can any friends help out in your search? Do they know of ANY job openings? Good luck to you.

damn this is a mirror image of me until early january when a temp agency actually hooked me up with a job. its not in my field but it pays ok and i can do as much OT as i can stand.
i was stuck in the jobless loop for about 4 months after i got laid off from my job unexpectedly...dam near had to move back in with my parents
i know you have expanded your search all over the western US, but trust me...unless your an executive, no body is going to give you an interview unless you are currnetly living where you are applying. i sent numerous resumes to jobs in Denver, even putting my contact address as my friend's addy who lives there. i got calls to interview...but once they found out i actually didnt live there they declined to give me an interview.
Good luck, i hope you find something soon.

Beejay hit thte nail on the head I was going to use the people at the mall as my example. With "jam" bands its all good, I mean they allow free shairing of there music and they just wan every one to be well.
I wouldnt paint metalica and sell pictures of them. But as an artist you have the right to portray what you want, just cuz you use an image of a person to describe a feeling one gets from that person shouldnt be frowned apon.

well i can give you my advise, and its good advise, well it works for me. i legally made $12 this year, but took in atleast 8 grand, probably more. i only work for myself and get paid cash. now i do what i can do, make glass, buy junk cars part them out and sell em on e-bay, sell pizzas on the street, and snowplow. now i know that those probably arent your things. but youre in graphic design. so go out and find soem freelance work!
i wuold recomend to you for starters, that you go out to some resturants, and find the ones with shitty menu's and pitch a re-design negotiate a price and get paid in cash.
there are lots of companies and businesses that need work done, you can sell your work to anyone. really, you just need to be able to sell yourself. im sure that you have other skills too, what are they?
working for yourself is key. also when you are paying cash, you can usually get a discount on your appt, because the manager just lists it as empty and pockets the cash!

yeah, cash jobs are key. Its not even taxable till you make over 5k from an individual client, or something along those lines. Nobodies gonna check anyway if your not raking in the dough.
Zippoz, menus are a great idea, I think Im gonna start whoring that one for a while. I think a good idea is to try to snag a menu from a joint, or get a takeout menu. Then redo it on your own without them hiring you. Then just show up and show them a sample of your masterpiece. As long as you dont ask anything outragious, I bet they'd buy the design. you could set up templates or something to make the work easier, just changing little things for a custom feel. You could probably rake in a quick buck on that one.
Time to make some Indesign templates teehee!
oh yeah and about the bands thing... If you dont use the band name in the piece, it shouldnt matter who you paint. You can photograph celebs and sell them to newspapers right? So Im pretty sure you have full rein with painting anyones image, even corporate logos come to think of it. Artist have always used these types of images. Look at Warhol! Especially on dealing with a small scale buisness like selling at fairs and shows. I really dont think anyones gonna come down on anyone for that shit... I hope

oxy is a bitch, depending on where you get it they are going to try and rip you off, hardcore. find out who the competitors are ans say youre getting so and so tank for some cheap price then theyll match it. anyways this isnt about glass. its about adrug's job problem
making the menu's in advance would be key, alot more work, but youll sell more. do the printing and laminating for them too, get it dont at kinkos and charge an arm and a leg.
or you scam them. heres how you do it make the menu, and mail yourself 2 copies. make sure they get postmarked and are sealed very good.
then give a copy to the resturant for free, let them print it and use it without your permision, and threaten to sue them. your postmarked un-opened copies are proof that you created them and of when they were created (postmark)

Honestly, getting away from where you are and going back to where you're from will probably be the best thing for you. It should really help you find yourself. I hope you will still have some of your old friends around to keep you entertained.
I am sorry to say so, but you haven't tried hard enough to get the things that you want. You give up too easily because of your emotions and it's very sad. I know you have some heart. I have seen it. I just don't know what ever happened to you.
You need to talk to someone. See if you can figure out what's going on and why, because blaming other people is getting you nowhere. It takes dedication to get the things you desire out of life. People don't want to hear "I'm trying the best I can", they want to see it. When you fail to prove yourself, you cannot blame other people. You can only blame yourself.
I spit in your direction so often because we don't see eye to eye, but I wish you the best back home. I hope you rediscover your direction among people who really love you and want to see you on the right path.
It's been too long..
