i really dont know what to make of this one. ive had cubensis mycellum growing on my brf cakes but starting from the innoculation spots on maybe 1 or 2 of the 4 total spots on each cake started turning light yellow. now it has kind of evolved into a dry-looking brownish color. the mycellum (i think?) is still spreading, but the white is not very common anymore, as the brownish crap is tracing right in its footsteps. i wish i could provide some pics, i have yet to see any pics like it here yet, it doesnt smell like contam, but there is a faint mushroom odor but not very strong. can mycellum just up and die on me? my only thought on this mater is that theyre lacking oxygen (4 small holes in the lid covered in tinfoil). anyone got anything for this? those 5 started growth in about 10 days at about 65 degrees; i know thats not ideal. thats what i get for letting chris take care of them while im away :(. after the 10 days there was very little growth, like maybe dime to quarter sized growths. now theyve been in a 85 degree water bath and teh mycellum was kickin till this shit started up. please help!.!.!.!

sorry man - doesnt sound to good - either the white shit was actually a contam that has just changed colour as it prepares to spread spores, or its a contam thats overrunning your mycelium...

well i found my prob. waaay too dry substrate. being in the warm water bath i guess evaporated too much, or they were too dry to begin with (prolly both). either way it dehydrated, from the innoc points outward and the mycellum shriveled into grey and died. very tragic [they are my first babies :(]... i lost 6 of my 10 jars but added water to the remaining 4 jars today and we will see if they speed up at all. thanks for your help anyways, and keep them jars moist!

Beppo,
keep me in touch with what happens when you add the water, My monkey is thinking of doing the same within the next few days - hoping to revive some jars that are too dry.

well i can tell you this duncan, i cannot rule that it was the water that did them in but the brf/hay mixture one got totally colonized with contaminates in like 24 hours, which sucked teh wang bigtime cos that one was doing teh best. teh one i had mixed with miracle grow and hay and brf is still treading along, seemed to speed up a little but the miracle grow is def not helping at all, more like keeping it back. 1 is getting lipstick mold, as another of the ones i threw out did, and i cant remember about the last 2. the hay one that got totally screwed fast has black contam almost fully lining the bottom, very strange looking, never seen anything like it in pics or irl. i added a lil more water, well more like a 60/40 h2o2/h2o to try and fight the ones that were starting a lil green and red. its hopeless tho, im gonna clean up all the jarz today, make 2 more with cubies, and do four 1/2 quart jars with cubies also. all the 10 quart and 8 half ones will be cyanescens when they come in (monday hopefully) and im also getting in some filter discs for the jars too which i will switch to as soon as they arrive next week. this time i plan on sterilizing by boiling 1 hr, microwave (no metal tops in mic!) for i dunno, mbe 10 min, and boil again till i feel like it, or whenever the blunt runs out :). prepare my last cubie spores into teh syringe and innoc bright and early tomorrow morning. ill keep real-tie posts on this one mbe in the grow section, but as far as these current jars go, id say 5% to none.
