I'm a newbie and am currently growing my second crop of Amazon strain. The first crop was grown using the MMGG method and the current crop is using a pre packaged kit. I am about to try the MMGG bulk substrate method and am curious if I can use a mycelium syringe generated from my current crop as opposed to using a fresh cap. From what I've read it seems that the syringe method may have less of a chance to introduce contaminates. If anyone has used mycelium syringes or has an opinion I would love to hear about it.
Actually I think risk for contamination would be lower with the mycelium syringe, as long as the culture you use is good and clean. Not to mention you need to be very familiar with the technique. You also should get a much faster growth time because the mycelium is already living fungus and does not have to germinate from spores.
A mycelium syringe made properly should be a cleaner way to go. However I would like to point out that an expeirenced friend of mine recently tried a mycelium syringe from a major vendor and all 12 jars turned green within 3 days. The conclusion was that the mycelium syringe was EXTREMELY containamated. The sterlized jars where very sterile and set for a few days with no containaments showing. The ut-most "by the book" sterile procedures were used. Well after 3 days the exact locations where the mycelium was injected turned green and white. No other areas started this way. So, however one is supposed to prepare the syringe, they would seem to need the same sterile precaustions as a spore syringe (obvious I guess...) or it's like: GREENSVILLE!!
