growing Maitake on sawdust blocks
    #3869999 - 03/04/05 10:24 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

I need help! I want to grow Maitake on synthetic sawdust logs, I can get the primordia to form. After that I'm lost as to the correct moments when to decrease co2 and light. In fact, I would like an experienced growers help

Please describe the makeup of your substrate, and also please describe the conditions which you are using to induce fructification (temperature changes, humidity, air exchanges. etc.)

I personally have had terrible results with indoor fruitings of proven strains and I'm eager to hear of others' success even if it's just to the primorida stage. I have only been able to fruit this species outdoors thusfar.

Here is some good readings:

You need a lot of patience.
I have more articles, but they are too large to upload.

I have indoor mounds right now. They formed in vitro. They appear to be forming fronds, but only time may tell. They're still invitro.

I can't quite tell if they are new primorida forming ontop of dead primordium, but they appear to be the beginning of the individual caps.

In vitro (glass)? You mean your mycelium is forming mounds on agar? Or do you mean in substrate bags on blocks?

Well, in plastic actually. They have formed mounds in their mycobag. I took them out and put them into a larger bag for more breathing room. I haven't been very nice to them, fresh air once a day and a mist every once in awhile. I'll try to get pictures tomorrow.

But this strain has formed wierd structures on agar that look similar to fruiting bodies.

That looks like quite a promising strain, Yidaki.  Spontaneous formation of primordia on agar is always a good indicator of a robust strain with "possibilities."

It makes sense to me that it reproduces easily, because it was found during a drought. Perhaps such a hunting strategy could yield more successful strains in other species as well.

It's in my fruiting chamber right now, we'll see what happens to these mounds.

Please see my thread here regarding benign neglect mound formation of maitake in my basement. Suggestions are welcome...
