    #386959 - 09/06/01 10:32 AM (22 years, 7 months ago)

I asked some dude at home depot if they had verm there and he said that they do not sell it cuz its a carcinogen. i was like, uhhh ok and ran over to plant land. Anyways....

I consume small amounts of verm on my fruits cuz i case with verm. Would small amounts verm be carcinogenic. Or is it one of them things like salt can kill u if u eat 2 pounds of it....

Some time ago vermiculite from one mine in the US was found containing traces of asbestos.
Now, it was only one mine, but it caused a major public upset.
As far I can tell, if you don?t breath in the dust that arises when vermiculite is handled then you don?t have to worry.
Btw, how comes you eat the vermiculite? I found it beneficial if you cut the fruits of your labor clean before drying.

I dont think that the verm itself is a carcinogen.....but there was an asbestos(sp?) scare involving verm and i believe the guy at home depot just has his facts mixed up...i dont know for sure though myself...something to look into i guess.....

You actually beleived what some guy at Home Depot told you??? You will find a general trend in retail stores.... the employee's are monkeys, they know how to run the cash register, and that is usually the extent of their skills.

Oooo this tea tastes like dirt, what is it....?

That's odd cos the guys that work at home depot stores are normally extremely clued up....

To be safe, you don't want to be inhaling any kind of mineral dust or fibre. Eating it would be an entirely different matter I'd doubt that even asbestos is carcinogenic when eaten.

Ya, i knew the dude from home depot was crazy. But he was all like, ya u cant get in anywhere and shit. Like they are taking it off the market. He had a lazy eye too heehehe.

Anno i normally just try and clean the fruits off as best as i can. Are u talking about cutting them from the caing surface?? I did this in the beginning and the stumps wouldnt show to much but they would rot and introduce contams (i think cuz i would contam probs after 1st flush). I now pull up the shrooms with the twist and then pull method now and patch the surface pack afterwords...

No.

>method now and patch the surface pack afterwords...
Exactly.
I was talking about cutting the parts where the casing has grown in the flesh of the shroom away with a knive.

As for the statistics on the toxicity/carcinogen qualities of verm you'll have to wait until WE all die before there is any final determination on this issue.

I agree i would rather loose the .001 grams of the mushroom than eat the verm.
