High Speed Access help?!?!
    #3868457 - 03/04/05 05:02 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Okay, I'm usually at home, with my dial up connection. But right now I'm in a hotel that has high speed access in every room. I even got a cable from the front desk. But now I don't know what to do. My computer wants me to set up a VPN connection, and it asks for a server. Is this the hotel? Or do I have to have an account somewhere else? Also, it wants to know if it's a PP2P or LT2P. ?? I've never even plugged in an ethernet cable before. Can anyone help? Thanks :peace:

Actually, that didn't really help. I forgot to mention I'm on an iBook. Go Mac!
Thanks, though!

Hey -

I'm not sure how the hotel's network is set up but I doubt you need to configure a VPN. What you want is a TCP/IP network connection. You may be able to set this up automatically by telling it to use a DHCP server, otherwise ask at the front desk for an IP, gateway and subnet mask. Unfortunately I don't know much about Macs so I can't tell you exactly how you'd configure those but I'm sure Google would tell you.

Good luck!

-Y

i used to work at a hotel...usually, you should plug it in and it will try to assign you an IP automatically with a DHCP server. it was setup by the ISP, so I'm guessing this is the common practice. I could tell you how to do it in 5 seconds on windows, but you'll have to look up how to get your settings right with a mac.
