how does this calendar work?
    #3868312 - 03/04/05 04:43 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

How does this calendar get its information to change month and layout of the days?

Its here on the Kansas city libraryhome page
http://www.kclibrary.org/

This is the link for the month title of the calendar

<a href="http://www.kclibrary.org/calendar.cfm?month=3&amp;year=2005&amp;day=1&amp;action=month">March 2005</a>

Each day has an individual link like this

<b><a href="http://www.kclibrary.org/calendar.cfm?Month=3&amp;year=2005&amp;day=1&amp;action=day">1</a></b>

What exactaly is this part of the  link doing? "calendar.cfm?Month=3&amp;year=2005&amp;day=1&amp;action=day"

I don't understand the "&amp" and "action=day

is that where it gets its date and day layout from?

I need to build one of these. I can build the calendar, i just don't know how i would get it to change months and day layouts without editing it by hand every month?

Ive dug all though the source and can't find anything else that looks llke where it would be gtting its date from.

They can't be editing it by hand every month, right?

any help would be more than apreciated, you have no idea how much this would mean to me.
thanks alot.

Hey -

The calendar is a script written in the Cold Fusion language (you can tell by the CFM extension). All the information after "calendar.cfm" is pairs of variables and their data. By calling "calendar.cfm?month=3&year=2005", you're telling the web server to run the script and set the "month" variable to 3 and the "year" variable to 2005. The script then takes those variables and uses them to retrieve and display the necessary information.

For more information look into web scripting, I'd personally recommend PHP over Cold Fusion. Here's a good site with information on a lot of different languages:

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions!
