First Casing Attempt Pins :-) Big Delima, Need Advice...

Ok, well I was gonna post pics, however the fucking batteries I bought less than 12 hours ago for my camera are already dead, so grrrr :mad:  I've got 6 casings, 3 GT, 3 PR, and this morning all 3 GT casings apparently setup their pinset last night.  The PRs aren't pinning yet.  I've gottem in a rubbermaid that I've been fanning 3-4 daily, and I followed Hyphae's moisture content tek as far as "near saturation" of the casing layer.  I'll be misting again once the first flush is done.  However, I've got a huge delima.  My grandfather passed away Wednesday night and I'll be leaving on Sunday morning to drive to Maryland from Texas, and won't be back until late Thursday evening.  I don't have anything automated, as far as light, or air exchange.  I didn't have the money to setup anything fancy before hand and this trip is gonna set my bank acc't into the red.  What should I do?  The light I have in there I've noticed has slightly dried out the PR casings, which are right underneath it, so I don't wanna leave it on for 5 days straight.... I don't know, I'm freakin out, what should I do???  Thanx in advance...

get the lites on a timer, only like 5 or 6 bucks from kroger or the equivelent

Tight. Is that homer swinging off of a grow light?

As far as what to do while you're gone, you might wanna look into setting up your terrarium as a poor man's pod. Without air exchange, you'll come home to a real mess. It could def. be set up for less than $20. Get a cheapy air pump, bubble wand, perlite, and some aquarium tubing from wal mart or the like.

I have seen good results simply using a few cheapy 7w night lights. They def. won't dry out your casings.

If you don't do something to automate your system, you might as well kiss your casings good bye before you leave.

Leave the light off, mist well and make sure humidity will be kept in well. They'll be fine for up to a week. Its not gonna do you any favors of course..but they should still continue growing and be alive when you get back. You'll end up getting some better flushes after that.

Dude. Get your ass out on the corner and beg for the $. Anything. Just don't throw away 6 casings, 3 with pins already. Don't make me report you to the department of fungus wellfare!

You have until Sunday morning to get your shit together. If you can't come up with $20 in 2 1/2 days, I don't even know what to say. Sell some cd's or take somethin' to the pawn shop. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Scat: That's what I've been thinkin I'll do. I've got half a bag of verm left, and I think I'll just chunk it in the bottom of my rubbermaid with some h2o2/h2o, and leave the light off. I'll pray I don't have anything rotting by the time I get back.

Tomata: Dude, I seriously have $3.42 in my checking acc't right now. I'll take the $33 overdraft charges to make it to a funeral, but not to make sure my shrooms are OK... Anyway, I don't have 2 1/2 days. Its 3 PM Friday where I'm at, and I'm about to bounce to go take care of a bunch of family crap that'll take me until late tonight. Tomorrow will be hectic before I have to leave on Sunday, and I won't have any time to go anywhere....

Thanx for the kind words RK (Scat too, sorry I didn't thank you b4)... Anyway, my sentiments exactly, my family is more important. RK, I certainly do not have anyone I trust enough to watch after them for me. Are my attempts futile, or should I at least try with the verm on bottom? Its expensive for verm here, so if its just gonna be a waste, then I won't do it, and maybe I'll just chunk the casings outside and try to start up an outdoor patch...

What provides humidity right now? Just the casing and misting? No perlite?

I have no perlite on the bottom right now... I've misted to "near saturation" per Hyphae, and continued to mist the sides daily after the casing was colonized...

Don't use the verm...that won't do you much good.

Have an aquarium air pump?

You could rig up one and it would save your fruits...doesn't take much to rig one up.

I'd like to see a picture of your fruiting chamber...so we can see what we are dealing with.

Have any room in the fruiting chamber?

You could put bubblers in each corner.

Have perlite in the house?

If not fitting a small rectangle of verm...not thick..1/2 inch or so with as much h202 as you can afford in there (all h202 if youve got it) and water. Dont get it standing with water...just all the verm nice a wet with h202/water. It would work with straight water but more chance of contams. Sterilizing the verm will help. If youve got perlite, this would be a better option. Like 5 bucks at the store if you can get a buddy to loan it to you or something and have time..if not the verm should work ok. All the h202 may help to break down over time into water/oxygen...fresh air and moisture. Either way I'd use lots of h202 if you can...

Scat would it not be ok for him to use straight H2o2, since he has gallons of it. Mix with a lil of his verm of coarse.

And Sorry to hear about your Grandfather man, I lost both of mine in 2 years.

pink, thanx man, its tough, but i'll be ok, i didn't really know him real well, and haven't seen him in like 3 years, but he's still family you know?... anyway, as ya'll can see, i've got a little room in there when I pull my light out, so now I'm thinking i'll sterilize another gladware, put about 1 - 1 1/2 inches of verm and straight h2o2 in the middle of my terrarium... better than nothing right :/ ??? any thoughts???

Thanks for the picture bro.

Yeah you have enough room in there.

Go get a cheap aquarium air pump(with 2 outlets)...some air hose and 2 small bubbler stones.

Don't worry about putting a filter disc on the aquarium air pump now...we will do that when you get back.

Connect some air hose to the air pump.
Take 2 small drinking glasses...put h202/water in the glasses...put one on both sides of your fruiting chamber.
Run air hoses to them...connect the bubbler stones to the air hoses.
put the air stones into the glasses of h202/water.

Cut a hole in your fruiting chamber...about the same level as the top of your casings.
Stuff that with polyfill or cotton.

That would take care of your air exchange and humidity...til you get back.

This is what I'd do...If you cant go the route RK suggested with the pump...I got the feeling this wasnt an option you were wanting to consider though..
